Race 5

With the late scratching of three of his main rivals, the door may have opened for today’s best bet, DAR LEGEND to chalk up his maiden victory. He has only had the two runs to date and showed some improvement when finishing nineth last time out over seven furlongs, 5.2L behind the winner. He returns from a 39 week rest, and has his first run for his new trainer, but he has had the benefit of two barrier trials, winning the latest. He jumps from gate seven and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here. A 3yr old and a 4yr old filly could chase him home, with the slight preference going to UPGRADES who has also had just the two starts, but made the expected improvement to finish fourth last time out over 1100M, just under a length and a half behind the winner. She had to be held up on the home turn, but made good late progress over the closing stages. She has a wideish gate nine, but if she has continued down that same path of improvement, she could be the biggest danger to the top choice.

BEL SUONO only saw daylight at the 300M mark before finishing well to end up in sixth place last time out over six furlongs, 4.3L back from the winner. She faces a wide draw twelve, but she should be doing her best work late. There are four unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connection believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected.

Race 6.

A 3yr and a 4yr filly as well as a 5yr old mare could fight out the finish to this race and complete the trifecta, but SIZZLE CHIC is taken to lead the pack home. She has won two of her last three runs and finished second in the other. The latest victory over six furlongs was by just a short-head, but she clearly has some ability and from gate six, she should turn in another honest performance today.

TAYLOR BE SWIFT went from jump to wire to win her last start over six furlongs by 1.3L. She is drawn one inside the top pick and will be having her peak run after returning from a lengthy 50 week absence. She should not be lightly dismissed.

RATHVILLY MISS has her first run since a 28 week spell, but has put in an encouraging barrier trial to prove her fitness. She finished eighth last time out over six furlongs, five lengths back from the winner, but she has cracked pole position and should be included in all bets.

Race 7

PIACIUTA is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys and was friendless in the betting markets, but nevertheless finished second first time out over 900M, just 0.8L back from the winner. She finished strongly that day suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to her liking. She would also have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, she could be the one that they all have to beat, even though she gets a wideish gate seven.

INEQUALITY is a 2yr colt bumping older horses, but he is seldom far off the action, finishing fourth in his latest outing over five furlongs, 1.7L adrift of the victor, despite having to be eased off the heels of other runners at the 50M pole. He faces a wide draw fifteen, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

BRIGHT FLIGHT is another 3yr old filly in the race. She finished fourth on debut over five furlongs, just a half length behind the winner and was immediately rested for almost a year. She returns here after having had four barrier trials and gets a useful draw two. The fact that her connections have brought her back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that she still has something more to offer them. As with the opening leg of the day’s Jackpot, there are four unraced runners in this contest, so the same comment in respect of keeping an eye on the betting moves applies here as well.

Race 8.

The day’s value bet, UNWRITTEN won over this distance three runs back and finished fifth last time out when stepping up to a mile, just over three and a half lengths behind the winner. He raced just behind the leaders that day, but did not quite go on with his effort over the latter stages, so the drop back in journey should be to his liking. He will have to overcome a wide draw ten, but given his style of racing, he should be able to work his way across without using up too much gas.

RENT A ROCK has posted two solid last runs, the latest when finding a powerful finish to end up in second spot over a mile, 0.8L off the winner. He is drawn one inside the top selection and will have ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

KING OF SPADES jumped awkwardly and did not act in the very heavy going when ending up in fifth place last time out over 1500M, 8.8L behind the victor, so that effort is best ignored. He was returning from a 15 week rest that day and has had a barrier trial since that outing. The gelding gets the service of a 1.5kgs claiming apprentice and is sure to put his pole position to good use.
