Race 5

FLASHY ICON was slow away, but finished strongly from some way back to end up in fifth place last time out over 1400M, 3.8L behind the winner and on that effort, he should appreciate the extra ground on offer here. He gets a handy draw four and looks to be the one that they all have to beat.

IT IS TO BE lost a length at the start, but struck the front at the 200M mark when winning his last start over 1600M by just over a length and a half and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. He now has his first run for his new trainer and if fully settled into his new surroundings, he should give a good account of himself here, jumping from gate seven.

EXTRAVAGANT CHOICE has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when second over 1400M, just over a length and a half behind the victor, but it should be noted that he lost a length at the start that day, before making good late progress over the closing stages. The gelding is drawn one inside the latter and will be hoping to go one better here.

Race 6

SPIRITS BURN DEEP is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys, but she came three wide into the home straight and then did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight, having to be eased at the 150M mark when ending up in fourteenth place last time out over 1200M, six and a half lengths behind the winner, so that effort is best ignored.

That was also at a stronger center and from draw seven and with her having 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice, she is taken to be the bets bet on the day’s card. AIRLINER gave the front runners too much start before delivering a powerful finish to end up in fourth spot in his latest outing over 1200M, just under two and a half lengths back from the winner.

The gelding gets a useful draw three and should enjoy the extra distance to emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice. SUPER SUNNY SEEYA chased hard despite hanging in down the home straight to finish second last time out over 1200M, beaten just a head. The gelding is drawn one inside the latter and should be involved in the finish.

Race 7

There are three unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected.

Of the raced runners, a 4yr old and a 3yr old filly could fight out the finish, but GLORY may well prove to be the better. She was slow away, but stayed on without really threatening the winner when ending up in seventh spot last time out over 1400M, 3.8L off the winner, but she has pulled a cozy draw two and could break her maiden at the seventh time of asking.

DARN CUTE showed solid improvement to finish fifth in her latest outing over 1500M. 1.8L adrift of the victor. She raced just behind the leaders that day, but had to be held up at the 100M pole, so she had her excuse. She on the other hand is drawn the widest in gate eleven, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

EYESPY THE EAGLE finished third on debut over 1300M, 1.7L behind the winner, notwithstanding his jockey dropping his crop in running and the form of that race has been franked. The gelding would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he should be included in all bets, even though he faces a wide draw nine.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, SAVOLDI won over 900M three runs back, finished second in his penultimate start over 1000M and then fourth in his latest outing over 1100M, 1.3L behind the winner, when returning from a 19 week rest. He jumped awkwardly that day, but recovered quickly to take up the lead, only to be run out of it late. The form of that race has however been franked and whilst drawn wide in gate twelve, he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today and could prove difficult to reel in over the latter stages.

ANARITA is a 3yr old filly bumping males. She overraced three wide without cover in the early stages when winning her maiden race last time out over 1200M, albeit by just a neck. She is not drawn that much better in gate ten, but she will have ex-SA jockey Keagan Latham in the irons, so she will get all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

STORMFIELD has consistent formlines to his name and although recorded as finishing sixth last time out over 1100M, he was just 2,.2L behind the victor. He jumped awkwardly on that occasion and then raced three wide throughout, but despite a wideish draw eight, he should turn in another honest performance here.
