Race 4
A 4-year-old and a 3-year-old filly could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day’s best bet, OUTISHKA is taken to lead the field home. Her last three runs have yielded a win over five furlongs, followed by two seconds, the first over 1100M and the latest over five furlongs, just a half-length behind the winner, but she was disappointed for a run at the 300M mark, before running on strongly over the closing stages, so can be considered an unlucky loser. She returns from a 15-week rest but has won her only barrier trial to showcase her well-being. The filly has a handy draw two and will have 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice and could prove hard to topple.
CRIMSON BONNET finished well to win on debut over five furlongs, albeit by just a short-head. She would have learnt from that experience and although returning from a 23-week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so her fitness will have to be taken on trust, she gets a useful gate four and could be the biggest danger to the top pick.
VANOUREUCE had solid form before finishing a tad disappointing fifth last time out over 1100M, 8.3L adrift of the victor, but he lost two lengths at the start that day, bumped the rail at the 600M mark and then hung in down the home straight, so that effort is best ignored. The gelding is drawn one outside the latter and should be involved in the finish.
Race 5
TOO MANY STARS is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she had her consistency rewarded with her maiden victory last time out over seven furlongs by 0.8L, this at the third time of asking. She raced just behind the leader in that event and then struck the front at the top of the home straight, before holding off the chasing pack in the dash down to the line. She has her peak run after returning from a 17-week rest and will have 1.5kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice. The filly faces a wide gate fifteen, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.
MORE FOR US has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over a mile with a second-place finish next time out over the same trip, just a length back from the winner. He stayed on stoutly in that event and from draw seven, he should be right up there when they hit the line.
BOYS CRY is seldom far off the action, finishing third last time out over a mile, just a neck back from the winner. He was a joint leader coming into the home stretch on that occasion and then battled all the way down to the wire. The gelding will have to deal with a wide gate twelve, but nevertheless, he should be included in all bets.
Race 6
This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. AWAYGOESTHEBUNNY goes for his hat-trick after victories over 1300M and the latest over seven furlongs by a head, despite him hanging out down the home straight. His jockey was also charged with excessive use of his crop, but notwithstanding a wideish draw eight, he looks to be the one to side with in this line-up.
A 5-year-old mare and a 4-year-old filly could chase him home, with the slight preference going to ZOUNILE who jumped awkwardly and overraced in the early and middle stages, hanging out at the 1200M pole, before winning her last start over a mile by a short-head. She has pulled draw five and will get the services of a 3kg claiming apprentice.
PROUD WITH PRIDE in turn will have a 1.5kg claiming aboard and raced three wide without cover, but still managed to stay on well to finish third in her latest outing over 1500M, one and a half lengths behind the winner. She is drawn one inside the latter and will be having her peak run after returning from a 19-week absence and should be included in all bets.
Race 7
The day’s value bet, EXTRA SMART is a 5-year-old mate taking on males, but she has cracked pole position and showed solid improvement to finish second in her latest outing over 1300M, just a length back from the winner. She was slow away in that event and came the widest of them all into the home straight, before finishing off her race well. She has her peak run for her new trainer and will be looking to chalk up her second career win today.
WIGGLES kicked clear at the 200M pole and then put 3.8L between himself and the opposition to win his last start over six furlongs. The gelding has a cosy draw four and will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.
RAPID RUBY is another 5-year-old mare in the race and has consistent formlines to her credit. She was returning from a 30-week spell and change of trainer when finishing second last time out over six furlongs, a half-length off the winner. She has pulled a wide gate ten, but she should not be easily overlooked.
