Race 4
POLYMNIA is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has finished second in her last two starts, the latest over 1600M, just a half length behind the winner. She delivered a powerful finish in that event and although drawn wide in gate fourteen, she should be doing her best work late. The filly will be having her peak run after returning from a 16 week rest and gets the services of Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey Jeff Lloyd to aid her cause. She looks hard to oppose and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.
THAT’S OUTSTANDING has consistent formlines to his name, finishing fourth last time out over 1500M, 1.8L back from the winner. He was returning from a 12 week rest that day and finished well from some way back. He on the other hand has a handy draw two and could emerge as the biggest threat to the top pick.
AMPLIFY is another 3yr old filly in the race and has only had two runs to date, finishing fifth on debut over 1200M and then fourth next time out over 1500M, just under four and a half lengths back from the victor. She would have come on further with that run under her belt and from draw five, she should be involved in the finish.
Race 5
The day’s value bet, JAYASHREE is a 3yr old filly bumping males, but she has consistent formlines to her credit and followed up her penultimate run victory over 1600M with a second place finish next time out over 1900M, just a half-length back from the winner. She tried to go from jump to wire that day and from pole position, she is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.
CIGAR MAN has only had two runs to date, finishing fourth on debut over 1400M and then showing the expected improvement to win by just under a half lengths next time out over the same trip. The form of that race has been franked and from one gate outside the former, he should be right up there when they hit the line.
DEVIL RIDER has won two of his last three outings, the latest over 2100M by 1.7L. He struck the front at the 100M mark in that event and then fought off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The gelding has a wideish draw eight, but he will be hoping to chalk up his third career victory here.
Race 6
STARBOARD has won two of his last three starts, the latest over 1300M, albeit by just a short-head. He was returning from a lengthy 70 week spell that day and overraced in the early stages and then came four wide into the home straight, before staying on well over the closing stages, so that effort was full of merit. The gelding will have to overcome a wide draw twelve, but a quick double is very much on the cards.
DEBELLO chased hard to get up in the shadow of the post to win his last start over 1400M by a short-head. He has a cozy draw four and will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.
VINTAGE CHOICE was returning from a 25 week absence when finishing second last time out over 1200M, 2.7L off the winner and the form of that race has been franked. Whilst drawn the widest of them all in gate thirteen, he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.
Race 7
SWELTER is a 3yr old filly taking on boys, but she won over 1600M three runs back, finished sixth in her penultimate start over 1500M and then fourth in his latest outing over 1300M, 1.3L behind the winner. She has pulled a handy draw four and could give jockey Tommy Berry a quick double in the day’s Jackpot should the top pick win the previous race.
IMPOSING PIER followed up his penultimate run victory over 1400M with a fourth place finish next time out over the same trip, just over two and a half lengths back from the winner. The gelding jumps from a wideish gate seven, but on the plus side, he will have 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.
LUCONI was a tad disappointing when ending up in tenth spot last time out over 2000M, eight lengths adrift of the victor, but he was reported to have return lame after that contest, so a line can be drawn through that effort. His top trainer is obviously happy that he has recovered and although drawn one outside the latter, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here.
