Race 5
OH NO BRO has cracked pole position and had his consistency rewarded with a 1.3L victory last time out over a mile. He finished strongly from some way back that day and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.
SAPPHIRES SON also won last time out over a mile, but in his case by two and a half lengths. He went strongly from jump to wire that day and from his wide draw thirteen, he is likely to adopt the same tactics today.
SEASIDE SANDY is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys and showed marked improvement to win her last outing over seven furlongs, albeit by just a half length. She battled all the wat down to the wire in that contest and whilst drawn wide in gate ten, she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.
Race 6
This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. MIDNIGHT DREAM has posted two solid last runs and although recorded as finishing sixth last time out over 1100M, he was just 1.7L back from the winner. He did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, so that effort was encouraging. The gelding has a handy draw four and will have 1.5kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.
HARDLY THE END is a 6yr old mare taking on males. She won over five furlongs three runs back, finished fifth in her penultimate start over 1100M and then fourth in her latest outing over five furlongs, 1.8L behind the winner. She shared the lead in that event, but hung out all the way down the home straight, which did her cause no good. She is drawn one inside the top choice and will have the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice.
IRON HAT put his disappointing penultimate start over 1100M behind him when finishing second last time out over five furlongs, just a length back from the winner, this despite being slow away and racing two wide throughout, before being hampered at the 200M pole. The gelding faces a wide draw nine, but should still be included in all bets.
Race 7
A 4yr old filly and a 5yr old mare could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day’s best bet, OUTISHKA is taken to lead the field home. She has only had two runs to date, finishing third on debut over five furlongs and was immediately rested for 23 weeks. She returned to racing after winning her only barrier trial and promptly won over 950M by just over one and a half lengths. She showed plenty of toe that day and from draw five and having 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice, she could prove hard to run down over the closing stages.
DUPENNY has consistent formlines to her credit and tried to go from jump to wire before ending up in second spot last time out over six furlongs, four lengths adrift of the winner. She has pulled a wide gate nine, but she is a speedy sort who should be able to work her way across without using up too much gas and could prove to be the biggest danger to the top choice.
GIVING DELIGHT has also only had the two runs to date, finishing fifth on debut over five furlongs and then showing the expected improvement to win by a neck next time out over the same trip. That victory was made much more impressive by the fact that he was hampered at the start, was held up approaching the home turn and hung out down the home stretch. The gelding is drawn one inside the latter and will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.
Race 8
The day’s value bet, SIMPLY XTRAVAGANT went from jump to wire, kicking clear of the field at the 200M mark and then just held on to claim her second career win last time out over 1300M, albeit by just a head. She now has her peak run for her new trainer after returning from a 12 week rest. Her useful draw two will be an advantage.
INVAHIR missed out on his hat-trick after two victories over seven furlongs when finishing nineth last time out over the same journey, just over four and a half lengths behind the winner, but that was at a stronger center, and he had to be eased at the 800M mark. The gelding was a wideish draw eight, but he should still be right up there when they hit the line.
SEASIDE SANDY is another 4yr old filly in the race and showed sudden improvement when winning her last start over seven furlongs by a half length. She raced just behind the leaders that day and then accelerated smartly over the latter stages. She is sure to put her pole position to good use.
