Race 4

ROCKBARTON ICON was crowded and had to be steadied at the 300M mark and was also reported to have not acted on the soft underfoot conditions when finishing sixth last time out over 1500M, 6.8L behind the winner, so that effort is best ignored. He has a handy draw four and on his better form, he looks to be the one to side with here and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

TIGON PRINCESS is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she finished second in her last outing over 1600M, just a length back from the winner. She raced just behind the frontrunners that day and then battled all the way down to the wire. The filly gets a useful gate two and could be the biggest threat to the top choice.

FLEET FOOTED has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when a staying on fourth over 1400M, just over a length behind the winner. The gelding has his third run for his new trainer and from gate five, he should be involved in the finish. There is an unraced runner in the field, so keep an eye on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether her connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for her should be respected.

Race 5

ISLAND LEGEND struck the front at the top of the home straight and was only run out of it late when ending up in third spot last time out over 1200M, 1.3L off the victor. The form of that race has been franked and from a cosy draw three and with him having his peak run after returning from a 16-week rest, he will be hoping to chalk up his third career win.

GIVING DELIGHT has finished fourth in his last two runs, the latest over 1100M, 2.7L behind the winner. He came wide into the home stretch in that event, but finished strongly from some way back. The gelding jumps from gate seven and will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice. In addition, the gelding gets a set of blinkers re-fitted and if this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.

Although SPARKS is recorded as finishing sixth last time out over 1000M, he was just 1.7L back from the winner. He delivered a powerful finish on that occasion and from a wide draw nine and with 2kgs being removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice, he should be included in all bets.

Race 6

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. However, SOCIAL OUTCAST has consistent formlines to his name and followed up his penultimate run victory over 1600M with a second-place finish next time out over the same journey, one length back from the winner, but he jumped badly in that event before making good late progress over the closing stages. The gelding will have to negotiate a wide draw ten, but on the plus side, he will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

ARE YOU JOKING stayed on well when finishing sixth in his latest outing over 1300M, just over two and a half lengths adrift of the winner, but it should be noted that his jockey put up 0.5kgs overweight that day. He faces an even wider draw fifteen but will be having his peak run after returning from an 18-week rest.

INVADER’S GIRL is a 3-year-old filly taking on males, but she won her penultimate start over seven furlongs when having her first run for her new trainer and then finished second over the same trip next time out, just a length off the winner. She is not drawn much better, just one inside the latter, but she is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the latter part of the race.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, CYCLONE RUPERT delivered a powerful finish to win his last start over 1200M, albeit by just a head. He returns from a 24-week absence but did finish third in his only barrier trial. The gelding has pulled a handy draw three and gets the services of 3kg claiming apprentice Cody Morgan, who could boot home a quick double, should the top pick win the previous race.

PLISKOVA is a 5-year-old mare taking on males. She tried to go from jump to wire last time out when finishing third over 1100M, just under a half-length back from the winner. She returns from a longer 36-week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so her fitness will have to be taken on trust, but from her draw five, she is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today and could prove hard to reel in over the latter stages.

KING RUPERT has cracked pole position and jumped awkwardly bumping another runner and then came three wide into the home stretch when finishing fourth last time out over 1200M, 3.2L back from the winner, but that was at a stronger centre and he was reported to have lost a off-hind shoe, so he had his excuses. The gelding has his first run after a 20-week rest, but has finished fourth in his only barrier trial to showcase his well-being.
