Race 4.

HADOUKEN is seldom too far off the action and although recorded as finishing fifth last time out over six furlongs, he was just over two and a half lengths behind the winner, this despite coming the widest of them all into the home straight. He was returning from a 21-week break that day and finished well from some way back. The form of that race has been franked and whilst drawn wideish in gate eight, he will have 2kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

BRACEWELL has cracked pole position and won over 1300M three runs back and then raced three wide without cover and was hampered at the 200M mark when ending up in sixth place last time out over six furlongs, 3.3L back from the winner.

LADY SUPERSPY is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has consistent formlines to her credit, finishing sixth in her latest outing over 1300M, two and a half lengths adrift of the victor. She made good late progress in that contest, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to her liking. She gets gate seven and will have a greater 3kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice.

Race 5.

The day’s value bet, RUPICASSO is a 3yr old filly taking on males, but she goes for her hat-trick after two wins over six furlongs, the latest by 1.3L. She was slow away that day, but stayed on well over the closing stages. From her handy draw two, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

PETAIN raced four wide without cover and then had to weave his way through traffic in the home straight before finishing fourth last time out over six furlongs, just under half a length behind the winner. The gelding has pulled draw five and should keep the top choice honest.

NEON MOON is a 4yr old filly who won over seven furlongs three runs back and then finished second in her next two outings, the latest over 1300M, four lengths behind the winner, but she did not get the clearest of passages in the home stretch that day, so that effort was encouraging. She is drawn one inside the latter and will get the services of a 1.5kg claiming apprentice.

Race 6.

ISLAND PRESS won over a mile three runs back and then finished fourth last time out when dropping down to seven furlongs, 2.2L behind the winner, but he was slow away that day before finishing well over the latter stages. He has his peak run after returning from a 15-week rest and is drawn the widest of them all in gate ten, but given his style of racing, he is likely to be dropped out of it in the early stages and then start to pick off the front runners over the closing stages of the race. With him having 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

TURNAROUND TIME is drawn one inside the top choice and had to be eased off the heels of other runners at the 250M mark, before only seeing daylight at the 200M pole. He then found a powerful finish to be just one length back from the winner in that run over today’s journey and could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

CAREERING AWAY has solid staying form to his name, winning his last two starts, the first over twelve furlongs and the latest over twelve furlongs by just under half a length. He went from jump to wire that day and with him having 3kgs removed from his weight thanks to his claiming apprentice, he may prove difficult to reel in the dash down to the line.

Race 7.

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested.

ARIMATHEA is a 4yr old filly taking on boys, but she has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three runs, the latest when second over six furlongs, 0.8L adrift of the victor. She raced just behind the leader that day and then took over the lead as the field entered the home straight, only to be run out of it very late. She attracted plenty of betting support that day and from a useful draw four, she will be hoping to make amends today, especially given that she will have a full 4kgs taken off her back for her claiming apprentice.

CHALKLEY is drawn one outside the top pick and had nothing go his way when finishing fifth last time out over 1100M, just under four lengths behind the winner. He was slow away and overraced in the early stages, before being held up approaching the home turn, but still managed to stayed on well over the latter stages of the race. The gelding has his peak run after returning from a 28 week absence and should be viewed a big runner in this line-up.

ELISEO showed marked improvement to finish second last time out over 1100M, one length off the winner when returning from a 24 week break, which clearly was just what he needed. He will have to overcome a wide draw nine, but on the plus side, he will get 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.
