Race 4.

PRETES is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she put 5.3L between herself and the opposition when winning her Maiden Race last time out over a mile. She raced wide without cover that day, but nevertheless put the race to bed shortly after turning for home. She takes on stronger here, but she has cracked pole position and could well be up to the task at hand.

KING ADVISO followed up his penultimate run victory over 1300M with a second place finish last time out over seven furlongs, 0.8L behind the winner. He tried to go from jump to wire that day, but hung out in the home straight and his jockey dropped a rein, so he can be considered an unlucky loser. From a handy draw four, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

STONECOAT won over 1100M on debut and then finished second last time out over six furlongs, two and a half lengths back from the winner. He sat just behind the leaders that day and then quicken well over the closing stages, suggesting that he should appreciate the extra ground on offer here. The gelding has a wideish gate eight, but will have come on further and should be included in all bets.

Race 5.

LAURELIN won over 1100M three runs back and then jumped awkwardly and overraced before coming five wide into the home straight to eventually finish eighth last time out over five furlongs, five lengths adrift of the winner, so that effort is best ignored. She jumps from gate seven and returns from a 19 week break, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials, finishing second in the first and winning the latest. She could give champion jockey James McDonald the first two legs of the day’s Jackpot.

SNEAKY PAIGE won her penultimate outing over 1100M and then finished second over the same sprint trip next time out, three and a half lengths off the winner, but did come four wide into the home straight that day. She is drawn the widest of them all in gate eleven, but on the plus side, she will have 1.5kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice.

TWITCH is the stable companion to the top choice and who came three wide into the home stretch when finishing third last time out over 1100M, just under four lengths behind the winner when returning from a 23 week break. From her far kinder draw three, she makes a solid back-up for the yard.

Race 6.

The day’s value bet, AEECEE EXPRESS won over seven furlongs three runs back and then put a disappointing penultimate run over 1500M behind him when finishing third last time out over six furlongs, two and a half lengths back from the winner. He was returning from a 45 week absence that day and the fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that he still has something more to offer them. From his useful gate three the gelding looks to be the one to side with here.

STROMBUS was slow away and came the widest of them all into the home straight when finishing second in his latest outing over six furlongs, just a half length off the winner. He was returning from a shorter 12 week rest that day and faces a wide draw eleven, but nevertheless should no be lightly dismissed.

FASTCONI finished seventh in his last start over 1100M, 4.8L back from the victor, but he did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight, only seeing daylight at the 220M mark. The form of that race has stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning and from gate five, he should keep the top two selections honest.

Race 7.

STROMBOLI raced just off the leaders before kicking clear of the field at the 250M mark and then held off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire to win his last start over six furlongs by 1.2L. He will have to negotiate a wide draw eleven, but he is a speedy sort who should be able to work his way across without using up too much energy.

EUPHRATES DREAM is a 4yr old filly taking on males, but she had her consistency rewarded with a win last time out over 1100M, albeit by just a short-head. She was bumped at the start and then overraced in the early stages, so that victory was full of merit. From gate six, she should give the boys a good run for their money.

PSYCHIATRIST won over six furlongs three runs back and then disappointed last time out when ending up in nineth spot over six furlongs, seven and a half lengths adrift of the winner, but his jockey did report that he raced green thought in that contest. He was immediately rested for 19 weeks and returns here after finishing second in his only barrier trial. Despite gate nine, he will be hoping to bounce back to his better form today.
