Race 4

ZEALOUSLY goes for his hat-trick after two victories over 1000M, the latest at this track by just under two length. He showed plenty of toe that day and from a wideish gate eight, he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy. The gelding will also be having his peak run after returning from a 21 week break.

A 4yr old and a 3yr old filly could chase him home, with the slight preference going to BALLROOM BELLA who was hampered at the start and then did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight when ending up in nineth spot last time out over 1100M, just under four and a half length behind the winner. She also has her peak run after returning from a 21 week rest and from her kinder draw two, she should be right up there when they hit the line.

BAUHINIA has consistent form lines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over 1250M with a sixth place finish next time out over 1200M, 1.3L back from the winner.

She jumped awkwardly that day, raced green in the middle stages and then had to be steadied off the heels of another runner at the 600M mark, before finally having to be held up at the top of the home stretch. In addition, she was reported to be lame in her off-hind, so that run is best ignored. The filly returns from a 15 week break, but has had the benefit of a barrier trial and is drawn one outside the latter.

Race 5

INCARCERATED missed out on his hat-trick after victories over 1200M and 1100M when finishing sixth last time out back over 1100M, 3.7L behind the winner, but he was slow away in that event and had to switch outwards at the 150M mark to get a clear run.

The gelding has won a subsequent barrier trial and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card. A 6yr old and a 9yr old mare could follow him home, with the nod going to WELCOME GYPSY who raced wide throughout before making good late progress over the closing stages, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to her liking.

From her handy draw three, she could be the biggest threat to the top pick. LEAVE ME SOME jumped awkwardly bumping another runner, but battled all the way down to the wire when ending up in sixth place last time out over 1100M, 2.8L back from the winner. She will have to negotiate a wide gate nine, but nevertheless, she should still be involved in the finish.

Race 6

There are five unraced runners in the field, so as is always the case in these types of races, a keen eye should be kept on the betting markets to get some indication as to whether any of the connections believe that they can win first time out. Any betting support for a runner or runners should be respected.

Of the raced runners, TEMPESTUOUS may well prove to be the best. He was bumped shortly after the start, had to be steadied at the 800M mark and then hampered at the 50M pole when finishing second on debut over 1000M, beaten just a head, so can be considered an unlucky loser. The colt has won a subsequent barrier trial and from his useful draw two, he could find himself in the winner’s box at the second time of asking.

MEMO is a 2yr old filly taking on the boys, but she finished third first time out over 1000M, just under one and a half lengths off the victor, this after racing four wide throughout, but still being able to chase hard all the way down to the line. She has also won a subsequent barrier trial and although drawn wide in gate ten, she should be doing her best work late.

BLITZBURG struck the front at the 300M mark and then fought off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire to win by a neck when making his debut over 900M. He would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected and jumping from gate five, he could be good enough to complete a quick double.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, MONTY BE QUICK was bumped at the start, but recovered quickly to take up the lead and then kicked again at the top of the home stretch to go on to win his maiden race last time out over 1500m by five and a half lengths.

He was immediately rested for 19 weeks and returns here after having had two barrier trials, winning the first and finishing second the latest. He takes on stronger here, but gets a cozy draw two and could well be up to the task at hand.

CALGARY KING is seldom far off the action, finishing third last time out over 1200M, just under a half length back from the winner. He was forced to race three wide without cover on that occasion, but stayed on well over the latter stages. Although he is drawn wide in gate nine, he should turn in another honest performance here.

ANGARA was returning from a 12 week rest when ending up in eighth spot last time out over 1000M, 3.7L behind the winner, but he would have come on further with that run under his belt. The gelding has pulled gate six and gets the services of Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd to aid his cause.
