Race 3
DEMITASSE has won two of his last three runs and finished second in the other, so he clearly has some ability. His latest victory came over seven furlongs by 1.3L when he was slow away and had to be held up at the 200M mark, but still managed to finish off his race strongly. The form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. The gelding gets draw seven and will be having his peak run after returning from a 19-week break and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.
VINTAGE CHOICE is seldom far off the action, finishing fourth last time out over seven furlongs, just under two lengths back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. He has his peak run after returning from a longer 33-week absence and whilst drawn the widest of them all in gate eight, on the plus side he will have 1.5kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.
STROMBUS followed up his penultimate run victory over seven furlongs with a fifth-place finish next time out over seven furlongs, just over four and a half lengths back from the winner, but he was bumped at the start that day. The gelding made good late progress over the closing stages and has finished fourth in a subsequent barrier trial. From draw six, he should be involved in the finish.
Race 4
The day’s value bet, CALIFORNIA GRASS is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she goes for her hat-trick after victories over 2300M and the latest over 2100M, when putting 4.3L between herself and the opposition. She did jump awkwardly in that event, but struck the front at the top of the home straight and then held off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. She has a wideish craw eight, but the trio is very much on the cards.
OZ LEGEND also jumped awkwardly finding himself towards the rear of the field and then had to be held up in the home straight before finishing well to end up in seventh place last time out over twelve furlongs, 3.2L back from the victor. He has a kinder draw two and with better luck in running, he should be right up there when they hit the line.
HERSELF is a 5yr old mare who has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three starts, the latest when sixth over twelve furlongs, just under two and a half lengths behind the winner. That effort was encouraging as she lost two lengths at the start and had to be held up at the 300M pole. She is drawn in gate six and has her first run for her new trainer. If fully settled into her new surroundings, she should give a good account of herself here.
Race 5
PRINCIPESSA has finished second in her last three starts and came the widest of them all into the home stretch when just a short-head behind the winner last time out over six furlongs. The form of that race has been franked and from draw five, she will be hoping to go one better today.
SOPHIA’S MAGIC had her consistency rewarded with a just under a half lengths victory last time out over 1900M. She jumped awkwardly in that event, before coming three wide into the home straight, but finished off her race well. She returns from a 16-week rest but has had the benefit of two barrier trials. She has pulled draw three and will have 1.5kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice.
ELETTRICA showed solid improvement in her last two runs for her new trainer, the latest when sixth over 1300M, just under a length and a half adrift of the victor. She has her peak run after returning from a 16-week spell and gets a set of blinkers re-fitted for today’s run. If this move has the desired effect, she should be a big runner here, jumping from gate six.
Race 6
HI DUBAI is a 3yr old filly taking on males, but she has only had two runs to date, winning on debut over 1100M and then showing plenty of toe when finishing eight next time out over six furlongs, just over three and a half lengths behind the winner. She returns from a 24-week spell but has had the two barrier trials, finishing second in the first and fourth in the latest. She will have to negotiate draw nine, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.
SECRET REVOLUTION has cracked pole position and has won two of his last three starts, the latest over five furlongs by a half-length, despite jumping awkwardly and overracing throughout. He finished powerfully to nab the frontrunners just short of the post in that contest and will be hoping to chalk up his third career victory today.
TIME TO BOOGIE won his penultimate start over five furlongs and then finished second next time out over the same c&d, 0.8L back from the winner. The gelding returns from an 18-week absence, but has had the two barrier trials, finishing third in the first and winning the latest. He on the other hand is drawn the widest in gate twelve, but nevertheless, he should be included in all bets.
