Race 5

SEVEN’S won over 2000M three runs back, finished third in his penultimate start over 1600M and then third again in his latest outing over 2100M, just a length behind the winner, when trying to go from jump to wire. He now has his peak run for his new trainer after returning from a 22 week break and despite a wideish draw seven, he looks to be the one to side with here as he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today and could prove difficult to reel in over the closing stages.

He renews his rivalry with DECADENT TALE who is a 7yr old mare taking on the boys, but she finished second last time out in the same race mentioned above, just a neck back from the victor. The former is 0.5kgs better off with the second pick, so there should not be too much separating the pair when they hit the line. The latter gets gate six and Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey Jeff Lloyd in the irons to aid her cause.

FULFILLED showed marked improvement in his last two starts, finishing third last time out over 2100M, 1.7L behind the winner. He finished off his race strongly that day and from his handy draw four, he should be included in all bets.

Race 6

IMPERIAL FORCE put three lengths between himself and the opposition when winning his latest outing over 1100M. He was having his first run for his new trainer that day as well as returning from a 23 week break and came three wide into the home straight, before striking the front at the 150M mark to win going away. The colt has pulled a wideish gate eight, but nevertheless, is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

AGENDA SETTER is seldom far off the action, finishing second last time out over 1200M, just under a half length back from the winner, but it should be noted that he jumped awkwardly in that event and came three wide into the home stretch, before making good late progress over the latter stages. The gelding is drawn one outside the top choice and will be having his peak run after returning from a 22 week spell. He could emerge as the biggest threat to the top pick.

TUNED has only had three runs to date, recording two wins and a second place, the latest victory came last time out over 1300m by a neck, when going from gun to tape. The colt returns from a 15 week rest, but has had two barrier trials, winning the latest and from a useful draw four he should be involved in the finish.

Race 7

SYDNEY BOWLER missed out on his quartet after two victories over 1200M and one over 1300M, when finishing fourth last time out over 1200M, 1.3L behind the winner, He was returning from a 60 week spell that day and had to be held up between the 300M and 150 M mark on that occasion and then was never totally clear all the way down to the wire, so he had his excuses. The gelding has a wideish gate seven, but will have the services of Zac Lloyd and the fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that he still has something more to offer them.

SIGIRIYA ROCK won over 1600M three runs back, finished second in his next two starts the first over 1600M and then the latest outing over 2000M, just a half length off the winner. The form of that race has stood up well with three runners out of that contest subsequently winning and he has finished fifth in a subsequent barrier trial. From gate five, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

LITTLE BEGINNINGS has consistent formlines to his credit, having finished second in his last two runs, the latest over 1400M, beaten just a neck. He tried using frontrunning tactics that day and the form of that race has been franked. From his cozy draw three and with 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice, he will be hoping to chalk up his sixth career victory.

Race 8

The day’s value bet, LITTLE JEANIE came three wide into the home stretch, but battled all the way down to the wire when finishing second last time out over 1500M, just a head behind the winner. She returns from an 18 week break, but has had the benefit of a barrier trial and although drawn wideish in gate seven, the engaging of champion jockey James McDonald catches the eye.

WEEPING WOMAN has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over 1100M with a second place finish next time out over 1200M, 1.2L back from the winner. She sat just behind the leaders that day, but bumped another runner at the 150M mark when shifting outwards in the home straight. The filly will have to negotiate a wide draw sixteen, but she should use her early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy.

Although RIP OFF is recorded as finishing sixth last time out over 1200M, she was just 1.8L behind the winner, this after coming three wide into the home straight. The filly kept chasing all the way down to the line on that occasion and from her kinder draw three, she should not be easily overlooked.
