Race 4.

GREEN FLASH had finished second in his last three runs, two of which were over this c&d, prior to ending up in a disappointing nineth place last time out when stepping up to a mile, 17.6L adrift of the winner, but he did jump awkwardly that day and was also reported to have made a respiratory noise, so that effort is best ignored. He gets gate six and will be hoping to bounce back to some of his better form today.

SAVOURY is drawn one inside the top choice and was friendless in the betting markets when making solid improvement to win his last start over seven furlongs by half a length, this despite jumping awkwardly and having to be held up in the home straight. He finishes strongly that day and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice to aid his cause.

POINT COUNTERPOINT has won two of his last three runs and finished second in the other, the latest over seven furlongs by a head. He was returning from a 38 week break that day and made good late progress over the closing stages. The gelding faces a wide draw nine, but on the plus side he will also have 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of apprentice Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey Jeff Lloyd.

Race 5.

INUWASHI has won two of his last three outings and finished second in the other, the latest over this c&d when putting three lengths between himself and the opposition. He jumped awkwardly in that contest and found himself towards the back of the field, forcing him to come five wide into the home straight, before hitting the front at the 150M mark to win going away. He has pulled gate seven and is made the best bet on the day’s card and could give the powerful Chris Waller the first two legs of the day’s Jackpot.

AKAHATA has finished second in his last two outings, the latest over 1500M, 3.8L back from the winner. He was slow away that day, losing three lengths, but he stayed on well over the latter stages. The gelding gets a handy draw three and will be having his peak run after returning from a 20 week spell. If jumping on terms, he represents a huge danger to the top pick.

MICRONA has done even better recently having finished second in his last three runs, the latest over nine furlongs, two lengths off the winner. He tried to go from jump to wire that day and was only reeled in late. From draw six, he is likely to adopt similar tactics here.

Race 6.

CHOLANTE goes for her hat-trick after two wins over 1100M, the latest by 1.3L. Those runs came after returning from a 35 week absence, which was clearly just what she needed. She was slow away on that occasion and came five wide into the home stretch, but finished her race off powerfully. She faces a wide gate ten, but she could provide jockey Willie Pike a quick double.

EMBELLER on the other hand has cracked pole position and has consistent formlines to her name. She followed up her penultimate run victory over 1100M with a fourth-place finish next time out over the same c&d, just a length back from the winner, but she was reported to be lame that day and was immediately rested for 19 weeks. She returns here after putting in two encouraging barrier trials and is likely to produce another honest performance today.

DUCHY OF SAVOY also won her penultimate run, but in her case over five furlongs and then finished fourth next time out over 1100M, 0.7L behind the winner. It should however be noted that she overraced in the early stages and was then hampered at the 350M mark. The objections lodged by her connections against the third place horse was overruled and the result stood. She will have to overcome a wide draw eleven, but gets 3kg claiming apprentice Zac Lloyd in the irons

Race 7.

Two 5yr old mares could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day’s value bet, MORE SECRETS is taken to lead the pack home. She is seldom far off the action, winning over five furlongs three runs back and then ending up in third place last time out over six furlongs, 2.8L behind the winner, when returning from a 21 week spell. She has a useful draw two and should be right up there when they hit the wire.

IMPULSE CONTROL raced up with the leaders before striking the front at the 120M pole to put three lengths between herself and the balance of the field. She has pulled draw seven and will have her peak run after returning from a 14 week rest and could round off a good day for young Zac Lloyd.

GEO has won two of his last three runs and finished third in the other, the latest over seven furlongs by a one length. He raced just behind the leader that day before taking over at the entrance to the home straight. He has a cozy gate three and should be included in all bets.
