Race 4

CHIPPER followed up his penultimate run victory over 1100M where he put 5.3L between himself and the opposition with a just under a half-length fourth-place finish next time out over five furlongs, but he did come four wide into the home straight that day. He made good late progress after that and from a handy draw three, he is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

PUTT FOR DOUGH won his maiden race last time out over six furlongs by 3.3L at the third time of asking. He is drawn one outside the top choice and takes on stronger, but he will be having his peak run after returning from a 12-week rest and may well be up to the task at hand. The gelding could emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

MARTINI CRUSADER takes a big drop in journey after finishing fifth last time out over nine furlongs, 3.2L behind the winner, but he did race wide in the early and middle stages on that occasion. He is drawn in gate six and returns from a 15-week rest, but has had the one barrier trial to prove his fitness. If not finding this trip too short, he should be involved in the finish.

Race 5

WILD IRISH ROVER won his penultimate start over 1300M and then tried to go from jump to wire before ending up in second place next time out over 1300M, getting grabbed in the shadow of the post for a short-head defeat. He jumps from gate six and looks to be the one to side with here.

GRECIAN LASS is a 4yr old filly taking on the boys, but she has cracked pole position. She has consistent formlines to her name and attempted to go from gun to tape before ending up in fourth spot last time out over 1500M, just under two lengths back from the winner. She seems likely to turn in another honest performance today.

SPALTET hung out on the home turn when finishing eighth last time out over 1300M, just over four and a half lengths off the winner, when returning from a 51-week spell. The gelding faces a wide draw eleven, but the fact that his connections have brought him back into racing after such a lengthy absence would seem to suggest that they believe that he still has something more to offer them and he should be doing his best work late.

Race 6

SECRET SPY stayed on well when finishing third on debut over five furlongs, four lengths behind the winner. He is drawn wide in gate nine, but he would have learnt from that experience and with the natural improvement that can be expected, he could be the one that they all have to beat to give jockey Josh Parr a quick double.

NOBLE LEGEND had to be eased at the 600M mark and came the widest of them all into the home straight when finishing seventh last time out over 1300M, 3.7L adrift of the victor. He was also reported to have lost a near-fore shoe that day. From his kinder draw three, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

HE’S PURRING raced three wide without cover, but still managed to battle all the way down to the wire to finish second last time out over 1100M, four and a half lengths behind the winner. The gelding has pulled a wideish gate eight, but he should be doing his best work late.

Race 7

The day’s value bet, ALLUSIONIST had solid form prior to being a tad disappointing last time out when finishing tenth over 1100M, just under six lengths behind the winner, but he did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight and he was immediately rested for 15 weeks. He returns here after finishing second in his only barrier trial and despite a wideish gate eight, he could prove hard to topple.

I’LL TELL YOU NOW missed out on his hat-trick after victories over five furlongs and 1100M when finishing seventh last time out over five furlongs, just under two lengths off the winner. He came from some way back on that occasion and from gate four today, he should be better placed entering the home stretch in an attempt to bounce back to winning ways.

ORYX won his penultimate start over five furlongs and then finished sixth last time out over 1100M, 2.8L back from the winner, but it should be noted that he jumped awkwardly that day and was cut into on his near-hind, so that effort is best ignored. He will have to negotiate draw nine, but the gelding should be included in all bets.
