Race 5
SEASCAPE put her disappointing penultimate start over 1100M behind her when finishing third next time out over the same sprint trip, just over one and a half lengths back from the winner. She was returning from an 18 week break that day and tried to go from jump to wire. The filly gets a wide gate ten, but will have 3kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice and is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.
USEAPIN has won three of her last four starts, the latest over 1100M by a head, when returning from an 18 week rest. She lost a shoe in running that day, but finished off her race strongly to get up in the shadow of the post. The filly has a useful draw two and should be right up there when they hit the line.
SOHO ARTIST put 3.8L between herself and the opposition when winning her latest outing over 1000M, despite racing three wide without cover. She faces a wideish draw eight, but she should nevertheless be included in all bets.
Race 6
MIDNIGHT DYNAMITE has posted a career of eight starts for three wins, one second and two third place finishes, so he clearly has some ability. The gelding was a tad disappointing when finishing twelfth last time out over 1200M, 5.3L adrift of the victor, but he showed plenty of toe that day and the drop in distance will be to his advantage. From a cozy draw three, he may prove difficult to topple and is made the best bet on the day’s card.
PERSPIRATION has won two of his last three runs, the latest over 1100M by a head, notwithstanding being slow away and losing two lengths at the start. The colt finished powerfully in that event for a well-timed win and was immediately rested for 25 weeks. He returns here without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so his fitness will have to be taken on trust and although he has drawn the widest of them all in gate ten, he should be doing his best work late, to emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.
ALTHOFF was hampered at the start and had to be held up from the top of the home straight to the 200M mark, before finishing his race off well. He returns from a 21 week break, but has finished fourth in his only barrier trial. From his kinder draw two he should be involved in the finish with champion jockey James McDonald in the irons.
Race 7
The day’s value bet, ROMA AVENUE jumped awkwardly, but chased hard all the way down to the wire when finishing third last time out over 1300M, 1.2L off the winner. He has pulled gate six and will be having his peak run after returning from an 18 week break, as well as the services of a 2kg claiming apprentice.
PEACE OFFICER has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when third over 1400M, 1.2L behind the victor, but he did come five wide into the home stretch on that occasion. The gelding has finished fourth in a subsequent barrier trial and whilst drawn wide in gate nine, he will have 3kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.
MICKEY’S MEDAL showed solid improvement to end up in third spot last time out over 1400M, 1.2L back from the victor. The gelding gets a kinder draw three and should not be easily overlooked.
Race 8
This looks to be a tricky race to end off the day’s Jackpot with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. MOGUL MONARCH won over 1100M three runs back, then finished second in his next two starts, latest over 1200M, just under a length and a half behind the winner, but it should be noted that he did not get the clearest of passages in the home straight that day, only seeing daylight at the 200M mark before finishing off his race well. The gelding will have to deal with a wideish draw eight, but will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.
BRUTAL BOWLER is seldom far off the action, finishing third last time out over 1300M, just under one and a half lengths back from the winner, when returning from a 19 week absence. He was slow away that day and then overraced throughout, so he had his excuses. From a handy draw three, he should turn in another honest performance here.
ATELIER is a 3yr old filly taking on the boys, but she completed her hat-trick before finishing second in her penultimate outing over 1500M and then fifth last time out over 1400M, one and a half lengths back from the winner. She is drawn one inside the latter and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here.
