Race 4

VERMEER finished seventh last time out over 1700M, just under four and a half lengths behind the winner, but he raced three wide without cover that day and then came four wide into the home straight. He has his peak run for his new trainer after returning from a 13-week rest and has a handy draw three. In addition, he will get a set of blinkers re-fitted and if this move has the desired effect, he should be a big runner here and is taken to be the best bet on the day’s card.

ITALIAN AWARD has finished second in his last two runs, the latest over 1500M, just over a length behind the winner, but he raced wide without cover throughout in that event. The gelding has his peak run after returning from a longer 26-week break and from gate five, he could emerge as the biggest danger to the top choice.

VACATION LEAVE is a 4-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she has finished closer to the winner in each of her last three starts, the latest when third over 1700M, just under a half-length behind the winner. She stayed on well that day and although drawn wide in gate nine, she should be doing her best work late to be involved in the finish.

Race 5

SERENADE THE CAT is a 7-year-old mare taking on males, but she has consistent formlines to her name, finishing third in her latest outing over 1500M, just under a half-length back from the victor. She raced three wide without cover that day, but struck the front at the top of the home straight, only to be run out of it close to home. She has a useful draw two and looks to be the one that they all must beat. Although

PEAK ROAD is recorded as finishing fifth last time out over seven furlongs, he was only just over two and a half lengths off the winner, this after suffering interference at the start. The gelding finished well in that event, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking and from draw five, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

JUST WINSTON went from jump to wire when winning his last start over 1500M, putting three lengths between himself and the opposition and the form of that race has been franked. He is drawn the widest of them all in gate twelve, but he is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today and prove hard to reel in over the closing stages.

Race 6

A 3-year-old and a 4-year-old filly could fight out the finish to this race and complete the exacta, but the day’s value bet, GERETY is taken to lead the field home. She had her consistency rewarded with a victory last time out over six furlongs, albeit by just a head. She raced just behind the leader that day but finished best to get up in the shadow of the post. She must negotiate a wide gate nine, but she should turn in another honest performance here.

LADY FALVELON followed up her penultimate run victory over six furlongs with a second-place finish next time out over 1300M, just a head back from the winner. She tried to go from gun to tape that day and from one gate outside the top pick, she is likely to attempt similar tactics today. She returns from a 19-week break but has finished fourth in her only barrier trial to prove her well-being.

BUNGARRIBEE LAD has won two of his last three starts over six furlongs, the latest by a neck. He kicked clear of the field at the entrance to the home stretch and then held off all the late challengers in the dash down to the wire. The gelding has pulled gate six and will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.

Race 7

SILVER WARRIOR has cracked pole position and won his penultimate start over 1500M and then finished second last time out over a mile, three lengths adrift of the victor, but he was slow away in that contest, had to be eased at the 1400M pole and then hung in all the way down the home straight, so the gelding has his excuses.

TOO MUCH CLASS is a 6-year-old mare taking on boys and finished seventh last time out over seven furlongs, 4.8L back from the winner, but that was at a stronger centre. She has her peak run after returning from a lengthy 50-week spell and whilst having to deal with a wide draw nine, she should not be easily dismissed.

KIPLING’S JOURNEY had consistent formlines to his name prior to being a tad disappointing to finish tenth last time out over 1300M, 8.7L behind the winner, but it should be noted that that was at a stronger centre, and he came four wide into the home straight. The gelding faces an even wider draw twelve, but he should use his early gate speed to move across without expending too much energy and should be included in all bets.
