Race 4

VINOLASS is three for three, all over five furlongs, the latest when putting five and a half lengths between herself and the opposition. She raced just behind the leaders that day and then struck the front at the 200m mark to register a comfortable victory. She does return here from a 44-week break without having had the benefit of a barrier trial, so her fitness will have to be taken on trust, but she clearly has some ability and from a handy draw two, the quartet is very much on the cards. The filly gets the services of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd and is made the best bet on the day’s card.

TYCOON JENNY has consistent formlines to her name, winning over six furlongs three runs back, finishing second in her next two starts, the first over 1100M and the latest over six furlongs, just a length back from the winner. She returns from a shorter 25-week rest and has her first run for her new trainer, but has had two barrier trials, finishing fourth in the latest. The filly has a useful gate four and will have 2kgs taken off her back thanks to her claiming apprentice and if fully settled into her new surroundings, she should give a good account of herself here to emerge as the biggest danger to the top pick.

SUPER BRIGHT lost a length at the start but stayed on well to end up in sixth place last time out over six furlongs, just over three and a half lengths off the winner. She has her peak run after returning from a 19-week absence and from gate seven, she should be involved in the finish.

Race 5

SOLDIER OF ROME has only had two runs to date, winning on debut over five furlongs and then finishing third next time out over 1100M, 3.3L adrift of the victor, when returning from a 45-week spell. The colt tried to go from jump to wire that day and from his cozy draw four, he is likely to attempt similar tactics today.

ABOUT A GIRL is a 3-year-old filly taking on the boys, but she has cracked pole position and won by a length first time out over six furlongs. She returns from a 16-week rest, but has had the benefit of two barrier trials and has her first run for the powerful Chris Waller yard. The engagement of champion jockey James McDonald catches the eye.

KADALL goes for his hat-trick after victories over 1300M and the latest over seven furlongs by 2.3L. The form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning and whilst drawn wideish in gate eight, on the plus side, he will have 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice.

Race 6

This looks to be a tricky race with plenty of runners in with a realistic chance of finding the winner’s box, so some caution is suggested. STYLISED is seldom far off the action and was returning from a 34-week break when finishing second last time out over 1300M, just 1.3L back from the winner, but she was slow away that day, was held up approaching the home turn, before shifting out from the 150M mark. The connections of the third-place finisher lodged an objection for that outward movement, but this was overruled, and the original result stood. With better luck in running and from draw six, the gelding looks to be the one to side with here.

GIVARA has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when third over a mile, just over a length and a half behind the winner, but he came four wide into the home straight in that event, costing himself valuable ground. The gelding nevertheless battled all the way down to the wire and despite being drawn nine out of ten, he should be right up there when they hit the line.

ROMEO’S CHOICE had his consistency rewarded with a 1.3L victory last time out over 1300M. He raced up in second spot till the top of the home stretch, before kicking clear of the field and then holding off the chasing pack in the dash down to the wire. The gelding gets a kinder draw four and should not be easily dismissed.

Race 7

SILENTSAR won over six furlongs three runs back, finished third in his penultimate start over six furlongs and then a disappointing twelfth in his latest outing over 1300M, 4.7L behind the winner, but he raced wide throughout in that event and had to be eased at the 250M pole, so he had his excuses. The form of that race has however been franked with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning and from a useful gate two, he is made the value bet on the day’s card.

INTRODUCING endeavoured to go from gun to tape when ending up in eighth spot last time out over seven furlongs, just under four lengths behind the victor and was immediately rested for 20 weeks. He returns here after having had two barrier trials, winning the latest and although drawn wideish in gate eight, he should be considered a big runner in this line-up.

THE EXTREME CAT missed out on his hat-trick after wins over five and six furlongs when finishing third last time out over six furlongs, two lengths behind the winner, but he did jump awkwardly that day. He recovered quickly to pick out the lead, only to be run out of it close to the line. The gelding jumps from a handy draw four and will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways today.
