Race 5
DEPRIVATION has won two of his last three starts and finished second in the other, the latest victory coming over 1200M by 0.8L. he showed plenty of toe that day and although drawn wideish in gate eight, on the plus side, he will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice.
SHINES has consistent formlines to his credit, finishing fourth last time out over 1100M, just over a length behind the winner when returning from an 18-week rest and the form of that race has stood up well with two runners out of that contest subsequently winning. The gelding had to switch at the 150M mark to obtain a clear run that day, so that effort was encouraging. From his handy draw three and having the services of non-claiming apprentice, Zac Lloyd, son of ex-SA champion jockey, Jeff Lloyd, he should be right up there when they hit the line.
AFRICAN DAISY is a 6-year-old mare taking on the boys, but she finished fifth in her latest outing over 1400M, four lengths back from the winner and the form of that race has been franked. She has finished third in a subsequent barrier trial and jumping from gate seven, she should be included in all bets.
Race 6
EXTREMELY HARDYS put six lengths between herself and the opposition to win on debut over 1200M and could be just about anything. She went from jump to wire that day and has had two barrier trials since then. From her cosy draw three she could prove hard to topple and as such, she is made the best bet on the day’s card.
SEASCAPE has consistent formlines to her name and followed up her penultimate run victory over 1200M with a second-place finish next time out over the same c&d, beaten just a head. She tried to go from gun to tape in that event and from one gate outside the top pick, she is likely to attempt similar frontrunning tactics today.
STAR ACT has cracked pole position and also won her penultimate start, but in her case over 1300M and then ended up in third spot next time out over 1100M, just a length off the winner. she was returning from a 20-week rest on that occasion and jumped awkwardly, bumping another runner, overraced in the middle stages and then had to be held up at the top of the home straight, so she had plenty of excuses. With better luck in running, she should be involved in the finish.
Race 7
KOMODO DRAGON has only had three runs to date and goes for his hat-trick after two victories over 1400M, the latest by 1.8L and he has finished third in a subsequent barrier trial. He came three wide into the home stretch in that last outing, striking the front at the 300M mark and despite shifting out over the final 100m he held on for a comfortable win. The gelding will have to negotiate a wideish draw eight, but he will have champion jockey James McDonald in the irons who will be hoping to chalk up his second winner in the day’s Jackpot, should the top pick win the previous race.
RAPBIDASH is a 5-year-old mare bumping males, but she was hampered at the start and raced five wide into the home straight when finishing fourth last time out over 1400M, just under six lengths adrift of the victor and was immediately rested for 24 weeks. She returns here after having had two barrier trials, finishing third in the first and winning the latest. The mare has pulled draw six and will have 3kgs removed from her allocated weight courtesy of her claiming apprentice.
HELLO WORLD has finished closer to the winner in each of his last three starts, the latest when fifth over 1300M, 2.2L behind the victor. He showed plenty of speed that day and was only grabbed very late. The form of that race has been franked and from a useful draw two and with Zac Lloyd engaged, he could secure his third career victory. In addition, the gelding gets cheekpieces fitted for the first time and if these have the desired effect, he should be a big runner here.
Race 8
The day’s value bet, CORMAC T missed out on his hat trick after victories over 1800M and 2000M when finishing fourth last time out over 1500M, just under a length behind the winner. He stayed on well that day when returning from a 23-week spell and whilst draw wideish in gate eight, he will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways here.
UNITED KINGDOM has finished third in his last two runs since joining his new stable and returning from a 25-week break and was forced to race five wide into the home straight and shifted in from the 200M mark when ending up 0.7L back from the winner last time out over 1600M. He has his peak run and has pulled a kinder draw two.
GREEN BELT made his move to get to the front at the 700M pole and was only grabbed in the shadow of the post when finishing second last time out over 1900M, just a neck behind the victor. The gelding jumps from draw five and should not be lightly dismissed.
