Winning Form Best Bets

Race 1: JUST SENSUAL(4)
Race 2: KEEP THE FAITH(1)
Race 4: THREE BALLOONS(6)
Race 7: SAIL SOUTH(5)

Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 3: MAGIC TRICK(10)
Jockey: Grant VAN NIEKERK – Trainer: Candice BASS-ROBINSON

MAGIC TRICK is well-bred and she made big improvement when running on for 2nd over seven furlongs on this track, second time out. The 5th placed runner, Miss Hyde, boosted that formline with a good subsequent victory and this daughter of Trippi should continue to progress. Her pedigree indicates that she will have no problems with today’s extra furlong and the bay filly should go close from her good draw.

Race 5: IMPERIAL GUARD(1)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Mike ROBINSON

IMPERIAL GUARD has reached a competitive merit rating and that has shown in his improved recent form. He finished well for 2nd behind LITTLE MO at Kenilworth in his penultimate outing and followed that up with a decent subsequent run, despite being badly out at the weights in a graduation contest over this c & d. He is 0.5kg worse off with his conqueror for that one-length defeat but the switch to this track sways things in his favour.

Top Bet

Race 6: NABISCO(7)
Jockey: Richard FOURIE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

There are some fair stayers in this competitive low-key handicap but the most interesting entrant has to be NABISCO from the red-hot Snaith yard. This son of Western Winter has consistent recent form up to ten furlongs and being out of the Fort Wood mare, former Oaks winner Sweetie Pie, indicates that this gelding will relish every bit of today’s extra ground. The four-year-old continues to gradually drop in the merit ratings.

Race 8: ALEXIS(1)

Jockey: Corne OFFER – Trainer: Brett CRAWFORD

In contrast to the prior event, this female version of that contest features many quality form runners who should produce an exciting outcome. The five-year-old bay mare ALEXIS recaptured her best form during her KZN winter season stint and she is best in at the weights on official ratings on her seasonal debut today. She produced a remarkable finishing burst to nab a top quality field that included the likes of fellow Capetonians Silver Mountain and subsequent Grade 1 victress Inara over this distance at Greyville in her penultimate start. She wasn’t disgraced behind the latter when having issues in her subsequent start in a Grade 1 over the mile and deserved her 14-week break. The daughter of Dynasty won her only effort on this track in maiden company & she will take some beating today.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 1: EMPIRE RISING(1)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer:  Harold CRAWFORD

EMPIRE RISING has improved her formline since a moderate debut and sprinting does appear to be her forte’ for now. She tired late after setting the pace in a competitive seven-furlong event on this course in yielding conditions recently and is sure to appreciate today’s slight drop in trip. The bay filly recorded her career best effort over this c & d in her penultimate outing and the 2nd placed finisher Miss Malbec boosted the formline with a subsequent victory. This daughter of Gimmethegreenli- ght has obvious scope for improvement and she rates a huge contender with visiting jockey Andrew Fortune in the saddle.
