Winning Form Best Bets

Race 2: NOORDHOEK’S SPEED(1)
Race 3: CUTEY ME(14)
Race 4: SHADY WORLD(2)
Race 6: NORMANZ(2)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 4: SILVER EXPRESS(3)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The Snaith visitor SILVER EXPRESS had moderate form in stronger fields in the ‘Mother City’ but he is still lightly raced and could make big improvement on his local debut. The well-bred son of Silvano will be partnered by Fortune for the first time.

Race 5: ZAMA(3)

Jockey: Lyle HEWITSON – Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

ZAMA is the narrow first selection in this low-key affair and the chestnut makes his local grass debut. He showed some fair ability on the polytrack and wasn’t disgraced in two post maiden efforts, the penultimate of which may have been too far for him. The mile suits the Lateral gelding well and he can take advantage of a recent three pound drop in his merit rating.

TOP BET
Race 6: VILLA DEL LARGO(1)

Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The day’s topliner sees the province’s in-form sprinter VILLA DEL LARGO tackle just six other rivals, most of whom he has soundly beaten on a few occasions. The seven-year-old bay gelding completed an impressive four-timer with a 2.25 lengths victory over NORMANZ over six furlongs in a feature on this course, five weeks ago. He is 4kgs worse off with the runner-up but the Jallad gelding is even better over the minimum distance and he should confirm the formline. Trainer Justin Snaith’s charge is unbeaten from three c & d attempts. The latter hasn’t won for more than two years since his finest achievement when capturing the Grade 1 sprint at Scottsville in KZN. However, he has kept his form well in this province and must be considered.

VILLA DEL LARGO(1)

Race 7: VICTORIA COLLEGE(7)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The Snaith/Fortune combination holds another strong hand in this novice contest and the three-year-old filly VICTORIA COLLEGE is weighted to go close on her local debut. She brings some fair Cape form in much stronger company into this event and the well-bred daughter of Captain Al should easily handle the minimum distance. The formline of her last outing could be worth following.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
Race 2: SAIL THE STORM(3)
Jockey: Lyle HEWITSON – Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

The grey filly SAIL THE STORM has been moderate recently but she finally returns to the c & d where she posted a highly promising debut during the winter. Her jockey ended a barren spell lately and this three-year-old filly can also get her career back on track today. She should finish much closer to the more fancied NOORDHOEK’S SPEED this time around. The latter boasts decent form and is a worthy favourite but the minimum trip is a slight worry. She represents a red-hot combination though and must be respected.
