Race 1: PINNACLE PEAK(2)
Race 2: CLOUD ATLAS(3)
Race 4: NO DOUBT(5)
Race 5: EN GEE OH(3)

Magic Tips Best Bets

TOP BET
Race 1: PINNACLE PEAK(2)
Jockey: Marco VAN RENSBURG – Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

PINNACLE PEAK was super-impressive when he easily downed the short-priced favourite DICKENSIAN on debut over this c & d in late April. He is 3kgs out at the weights with the runner-up but should have plenty of improvement to come and could take all the beating.

Race 2: SMACKAROO(13)
Jockey: Marco VAN RENSBURG – Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

SMACKAROO benefitted from the long absence as she made huge improvement over this c & d four weeks ago. The chestnut filly was green that day but she produced a strong finish in open company and was beaten just a half a length at the wire. She will be fitter now and should build on that progress.

Race 4: NO DOUBT(5)
Jockey: Juan-Paul VAN DER MERVE – Trainer: Gavin SMITH

The filly NO DOUBT may have just found the distance too far for her on the polytrack two weeks ago and she will be a strong contender over the mile today. She stayed on strongly for a close 2nd over this c & d prior to that and of course the form of her last start was boosted when the runner-up Banks Hideal shed her maiden tag on Monday. This daughter of Philanthropist races well handy and she won’t mind this likely sedate gallop.

Race 5: WESTERN WU(1)

Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Alan GREEFF

The smart three-year old EN GEE OH is the only natural pacesetter in this field but he may not go a strong gallop with his hefty mass which makes for an intriguing event. That clearly brings the veteran entire’ WESTERN WU heavily into contention, especially as he thrashed BOLLEMAKIESIE(2.5kgs better off) over this c & d in another false run affair early last month. He certainly escaped with just a four pound penalty and can follow up for his red-hot combination. EN GEE OH is a gutsy frontrunner with promising form and he had a creditable last effort in the Derby. This shorter trip suits him well and he must be considered. Having said that, he has a big mass to shoulder and will have a tough fight.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 8: BIG CHIEF(7)

Jockey: Greg CHEYNE – Trainer: Alan GREEFF

BIG CHIEF wasn’t disgraced from a poor draw on his polytrack and handicap debut recently and he still has plenty more to offer in this province. The Black Minnaloushe gelding announced his intentions with an emphatic local debut victory over many subsequent winners in his penultimate run and he will be cherry-ripe today. Admittedly, he prefers an extra furlong but the blinkers could make the difference. The grey gelding represents a red-hot combination.
