Race 1: TIMEDTOPERFECTION(2)
Race 2: SAMIAM(8)
Race 3: BRUCE’S BEAUTY(8)
Race 5: LAVENTELHAAN(10)

Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: COVER PAGE(7)
Jockey:  Lyle HEWITSON – Trainer: Yvette BREMNER

COVER PAGE was fancied when she showed speed on her fair debut on the grass against male rivals, two weeks ago. She weakened into 4th that day but would have come on appreciably from that experience and should make natural improvement. Today’s change of surface should suit her running style and the daughter of Querari is drawn well at gate 5. Furthermore, she faces her own sex now and can stake a huge claim.

Race 3: COUNT’S QUEST(2)
Jockey: Luyolo MXOTHWA – Trainer: Grant PADDOCK

This is a very moderate maiden contest and extreme caution is advised. There are many runners who represent the Sheltering Arms c & d formline on 8/08 and the long-time maiden COUNT’S QUEST fared best of all in that event and he is a narrow first selection. The bay gelding ran on well to be 2nd best in the event referred to above. His c & d record is a fair one and he has definite claims from a good draw.

TOP BET

Race 5: ROMAN CALAMITY(1)
Jockey: Craig ZACKEY – Trainer: Corne SPIES

This is a very interesting graduation plate & the outcome will depend on whether the first selection ROMAN CALAMITY takes his place in this field as he was carded to race last Friday. The son of Caesour has plenty of class about him and he holds a smart polytrack record. He drew off to expectedly beat a weak field which included LAKE OF LIGHT (2kgs better off) over a mile last time out and should again easily have the latter’s measure. He is extremely well treated by the weights and should take a power of beating. The drop in distance is no issue.

Race 8: DIAMOND DYNASTY(10)

Jockey: Kersley RAMSAMY – Trainer: George UREN

DIAMOND DYNASTY has shown encouraging signs recently and she fought on well when beaten a neck into 2nd over this distance on the grass, nine days ago. She is even better on the polytrack though, and finished strongly to beat subsequent winner Conquering Queen over this c & d the last time she raced on this surface. Interestingly, she was partnered by today’s 2.5kgs claiming apprentice on that occasion.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 7: MIRROR THE MOON(4)
Jockey: Karl ZECHNER – Trainer: Dorrie SHAM

There are some hard-knocking handicappers on display in the day’s topliner and an exciting finish is on the cards. MIRROR THE MOON flopped badly in a ten-furlong feature on the grass last time but she had some decent prior form and more importantly, produced a classy performance in her only polytrack attempt to date. The bay mare finished strongly for 2nd behind BELLA’S EMPIRE over this c & d that day but she is now 3.5kgs better off with that rival. It is worth noting that the 3rd placed finisher in that event was the subsequent feature winner Purely Atomic. This inmate from the Dorrie Sham yard can reverse the form.
