Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 1: JUST LIKE MAGIC(8)
Jockey: Marcus A – Trainer: Hill Robbie

JUST LIKE MAGIC has shown some fair form to date and he drops in class on his polytrack debut tonight. He weakened late when 3rd behind a top sort over 1900m on the grass last time and could enjoy this drop in distance. The bay gelding jumps from a good draw and has strong claims with Anton Marcus in the saddle.

Race 2: WINTER WOOD(7) – TOP BET
Jockey: Delpech A – Trainer: De Kock M F

WINTER WOOD is lightly raced and she made huge improvement in a sprint over six furlongs on this track last Friday night. The well-related daughter of Western Winter was still green but she challenged strongly and only went down a short head to a smart sort. It remains to be seen whether she has recovered from those exertions in just seven days but she is the only entrant from the stable on tonight’s card and is bred to love the step-up to the mile. She clearly has plenty of room for improv- ement and is expected to take a power of beating. She takes on many battling maiden rivals.

Race 3: STUNNING ANGEL(1)
Jockey: Marcus A – Trainer: Janse van Vuur

The Gauteng speedster STUNNING ANGEL is better than her last few runs suggest and this surface could suit her telling speed. She has cracked pole position and is a huge contender on best form, with Anton Marcus taking the ride.

Race 4: WHITLEY WILLOWS(11)
Jockey: Cormack S – Trainer: Drier D R

The Drier/Cormack team has another strong hand in this opening leg of the jackpot and WHITLEY WILLOWS is set to make natural improvement from his fair debut on the grass. The son of Fort Wood wasn’t fancied over the minimum distance in open company late last season but he made decent late progress after being slow into stride. He was understandably green but would have come on immensely from that track experience and should relish tonight’s extra furlong. He has cracked pole position on his polyt- rack debut and merits healthy respect.

VALUE BET FOR TODAY:

Race 6: TIPTOL(1)
Jockey: Yeni M – Trainer: Howells D C

This is a competitive handicap with some decent sorts in the line-up and an exciting finish is on the cards. TIPTOL is a smart type who has often suggested that she is searching for further and her conditioner has obliged. The daughter of Silvano races beyond sprints for the first time in her career and she could be a real force tonight. She is definitely above-average and only her class enabled her to produce two solid recent performances over the minimum distance. She takes a dip in class tonight but is no stranger to racing around the bend, having achieved her last victory on the grass at this venue. The obvious worry is that she tries the polytrack but the surface could really suit her running style and the Duncan Howells inmate may prove a tough nut to crack.
