Winning Form Best Bets
Race 2: GIO PONTI’S LEGACY(9)
Race 4: TESLA(12)
Race 8: FRIKKIE(3)
Race 9: MATRESSE(1)
Race 3: MOSTARDA(9)
Jockey: Warren KENNEDY – Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL
MOSTARDA has posted two fair efforts on the grass to date and she was making steady progress for 4th over this distance in her comeback run, three weeks ago. She should strip fitter now and her trainer’s horses usually excel on this surface. The daughter of Horse Chestnut should continue to progress and she rates a serious threat despite her awkward draw.
Race 4: DUNDRUM(2)
Jockey: Keagan DE MELO – Trainer: Mark DIXON
DUNDRUM is improving smartly with experience and she found good betting support when producing her career best effort, four weeks ago. She overcame a wide draw to lead her field that day and the bay mare stayed on well for a close 3rd on the grass, beaten just over half a length. Admittedly, she takes on stronger now but has her peak showing and still has decent scope for progress. She tries this surface for the first time in her short career.
Race 5: TRIPANDIE(6)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER
This is an extremely competitive handicap blessed with decent pace and an exciting finish is on the cards. TRIPANDIE has a very good polytrack record and he is unbeaten from two c & d efforts. He had an impressive comeback run in a minor feature recently and should strip much fitter. The Kannemeyer inmate was returning from being rested and gelded and he raced wide that day but stayed on strongly for a close 4th in a blanket finish over the mile. This run possibly comes too soon for the son of Trippi but the expensive purchase still has plenty of improvement to come and he could be ahead of the handicapper.
Race 8: FRIKKIE(3)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Weiho MARWING
In stark contrast to the prior event, this low-key affair won’t be short of a decent pace and the principle contenders could fight out an exciting clash. FRIKKIE will definitely benefit from a solid gallop and he caught the eye when running on strongly for a close 3rd on his polytrack debut on Gold Cup Day. The blinkers seemed to make the difference that day and the Elusive Fort gelding probably escaped without a penalty. Furthermore, he drops in class now and is well drawn with top jockey Delpech taking the ride.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
Race 6: BAGGER VANCE(3)
Jockey: Brandon LERENA – Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL
The heavyweights have decent credentials in this competitive handicap and the likely sedate gallop could suit their cause. BAGGER VANCE has some good recent form on this surface and he drops in class after finishing just out of the money from his wide draw over this track & trip, six weeks ago. The Gavin van Zyl inmate continues to steadily drop in the merit ratings and he is extremely capable when racing up with the speed. His good draw is a major plus and in-form jockey Brandon Lerena retains the ride.
