CHARMING STEED followed up his recent win on the All-Weather with a good second-place finish. He is nicely weighted with apprentice Wong aboard and should give another good account of himself in this opening contest. VIVA A LA proved that he sees out a mile last time. He is always competitive in Class 5 and can give the top selection a good run for his money.

13:10 – Race 2 | Class 4 | 1650m

JOYFUL PROSPERITY has finished close-up behind the winner in his last two starts. Andrea Atzeni has picked up the ride and he may be able to coax a little bit extra out of him where it matters most. DRAGON STAR finished a neck behind Setanta last time. He is likely to race on the speed from pole and can feature.

13:40 – Race 3 | Class 4 | 1800m

Selections: 8/2/3

GOLD TACK was just beaten by FOREVER GLORIOUS last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights and definitely represents decent each-way value for Hong Kong racing pundits. SATIRICAL GLORY won his last start in good fashion and it is encouraging that Zac Purton has kept faith in the ride.

14:10 – Race 4 | Class 4 | 1200m

Selections: 8/9/7

The grey SWEET DIAMOND has won his last two starts on this course and is chasing a hat-trick of wins. SPICY GOLD showed good improvement when runner-up behind Prime Mortar. That was his first start at Happy Valley and another good run is expected. The South African-bred MR VALIANT is next best.

14:40 – Race 5 | Class 2 | 1650m

Selections: 7/3/6

CHILL CHIBI has a solid record on this course. He drops back to a mile and can feature if overcoming the wide draw. MOMENTS IN TIME produced a fair last effort in a Group 1 event and gives in-form trainer Danny Shum a strong hand in this Class 2 contest. HELENE FEELING must also be considered.

15:10 – Race 6 | Class 4 | 1000m

Selections: 11/2/3

FORTUNE WARRIOR finished a neck behind HAPPY HORSE last time. The pair meet on identical weight terms and there shouldn’t be too much separating them in the run down to the line. RED ELEGANCE is better than his moderate last effort. He reunites with Matthew Chadwick and can run into the placings.

15:45 – Race 7 | Class 3 | 1200m

SUPER JOY N FUN produced a decent last effort behind Full Credit and should be cherry-ripe having his third run after a rest. GOLDEN EMPIRE finished close-up behind Gracious Express at Sha Tin last time and a repeat of that effort should see him finish in the money. AMAZING VICTORY is next in line.

16:15 – Race 8 | Class 3 | 1000m

FAST SERVE is a two-time winner from three starts. He finished just under a length behind MIDORI GLORY last time and will be looking to get back in the winner’s enclosure. YOUTHFUL SPIRITS has decent form lines to his credit. However, it must be noted that Luke Ferraris has opted to ride the top selection.

The Douglas Whyte-trained IVY LEAGUE finished a neck behind ROMANTIC LAOS last time. The pair meet on similar weight terms and there shouldn’t be too much separating them in the run down to the line. STAR CONTACT was beaten the narrowest of margins in his last start. He has cracked a neat draw and can notch up his fifth career victory.
