IRONTAIL from the Garth Puller stable is the best bet on today’s card. The well-bred son of Pathfork caught the eye when running on powerfully to finish second over this C&D last time. He will be at his best when trying further, but he looks to be above average and should be too good for this field.

BOOGIE SHOES ran a good race on debut at long odds. She lost a length at the start, understandably raced green but the manner in which she ran on at the finish caught the eye. It must be noted that the horses that finished second, third and fifth have come out and won since. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight would have come on with the run under her belt and should improve to win this.
Race 7: WE LIGHT THE FIRE (10)
Jockey: Yeni M – Trainer: Govender Y
WE LIGHT THE FIRE ran a fair race in the Durban Dash last time. He should have finished closer to the winner that day as he hung in the latter stages. It must be noted that Celtic Voyager has come out and won again since that outing. He drops back in class this afternoon and if not in need of the run, should be the one to beat.
Race 9: STATE OF MIND (10)
Jockey: Kennedy W – Trainer: Van Zyl G
STATE OF MIND showed good improvement in her last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville. She was reported to be distressed that day which makes the run that much more encouraging. The daughter of Philanthropist makes her course debut this afternoon and if suited to the track, she should improve to win this.

CONSTANTINE is the value bet on today’s programme. The 7yo gelding has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He has won twice and finished second once from six starts over this C&D. The run that catches the eye is when finishing third in the KZN Winter Challenge 1200 in his penultimate start. If repeating that run this afternoon, he can find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
