Race 5
With the late scratching of one of his main rivals, the way may have been cleared for JOHN BOOKE to chalk up his third career victory. He was hampered at the start, but then finished well to end up in second spot last time out over 1100M in soft going, just a head behind the winner. He now jumps from gate seven and is taken to be the value bet on today’s card. PLUMARO is a 5yr old mare taking on the boys and returns from a 26-week break, but she finished third in her only barrier trial to prove her fitness. She was bumped at the start of her last outing over seven furlongs before the break and did well to finish as close to the winner as she did. She has cracked pole position and could represent the biggest danger to the top choice. KING RAGNAR takes a step up in trip after finishing second in his last outing over five furlongs. He was forced five wide into the straight that day and with better luck in running here, he should be involved in the finish.
Race 6
CANAPES could have his cause helped by the fact that two of his main threats have drawn wide, whereas he starts from gate seven. He finished third in his last outing over this c&d, some two and a half lengths behind the winner, but he played up before the start of the race and that would have affected his performance. He will have 3kgs taken off his back thanks to his claiming apprentice and looks to be the best bet on today’s program. SAY I CEE YOU was bumped in the run-in last time out when finishing second over 1350M, only beaten a head. He is drawn wide at gate thirteen but is likely to be doing his best work late. BRADBURY is drawn even wider at eighteen, but he too was only beaten a head in his last outing over this seven-furlong journey. Given his style of running, he should be picking off the leaders in the dash down to the wire.

Race 7
TITANIUM jumped awkwardly but then ran on well to win on debut over five furlongs. He was also reported to be green in the running which makes the victory that much more encouraging. He has a handy draw three and will retain the services of ex-SA jockey Sean Cormack which is a plus. BEFANA is a 4yr old filly taking on males. She raced wide when ending up five and a half-length back in her last outing over 900M when returning from a 14-week rest. She jumps from gate eight and if not in need of one more run, she should be right up there in the mix. MORT DOYLE won his last start over five furlongs by a half-length, despite being friendless in the betting markets. He is drawn in gate six and should be respected in this line-up.
Race 8
THE DRILLER has won two of his last three runs, the latest over seven furlongs. He made good late progress that day, suggesting that the extra ground on offer here will be to his liking. He has a wide draw of twelve to negotiate, but on his last effort, he should be doing his best work in the latter stages of the contest. BETTER ETHICS stayed on when second last time out over the mile in soft going. He has a handy two draw and will have his cause aided by having 2kgs removed from his allocated weight courtesy of his claiming apprentice. BLITZEN PASTURE drew clear to win his maiden race last time out over seven furlongs. He steps up in distance today and takes on stronger, but he has only had the four outings to date and could well be up to the task on hand, starting from gate five.
