J&B MET

Race 8: LEGISLATE(3)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

The Justin Snaith yard has a trio of entrants in this prestigious Grade 1 event and the stable could attempt to control the pace. With all of the principle contenders drawn extremely well, the expected dash for home should be pulsating and a tight finish is anticipated. The five-year old entire’ LEGISLATE may not be the same horse he was earlier on in his career but he continues to produce some top class performances. His comeback run in the Queen’s Plate was excellent as he ran on again at the finish for 2nd behind the brilliant LEGAL EAGLE and the son of Dynasty will strip much fitter today. Of course, he beat CAPTAIN AMERICA in the Derby over this c & d as a three-year old so will relish the rise in distance. Whilst he has 1.50 lengths to make up with the favourite, the likely sedate gallop could heavily favour the top selection and he could represent good value with ‘Striker’ retaining the ride.

LEGAL EAGLE lived up to his massive rating as he produced a stunning Grade 1 victory over a mile in the Queen’s Plate on his local debut, three weeks ago.Last season’s Derby victor is still improving

Race 2: STAR EXPRESS(2)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

There are some useful three-year-olds in this competitive ten-furlong handicap and once again a thrilling finish could be on the cards. The Justin Snaith yard is again well represented and STAR EXPRESS can build on her creditable last Grade 1 performance over nine furlongs. The daughter of Silvano has progressed smartly through the divisions and she was making late progress in a top class field, three weeks ago. She finished just under one length adrift of the former Grade 1 winner Same Jurisdiction that day and now drops in class on her third run after a break. She deservedly shoulders the biggest mass of the younger generation but should relish this extra furlong and could take some beating.

Race 9: PINE PRINCESS(14)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH – Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

The Mike de Kock stable holds a strong hand in this Grade 2 staying event and their representative of the fairer sex, PINE PRINCESS could be the right one. The daughter of Captain Al showed her top class staying ability when she fought back doggedly to win the SA Oaks over 2450 at Turffontein last Autumn. She has produced some fair performances subsequently, barring her poor July outing and she has her peak run today. She has experience on this track and the four-year-old filly is expected to love every bit of this rise in distance. It is most encouraging that she is the stable elect.

Race 11: PRINCE OF WALES(12)

Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Justin SNAITH

PRINCE OF WALES is improving rapidly and he was given a masterful ride from the front by Strydom when he won over this c & d, eight weeks ago. The son of Dynasty may have escaped with just a four pound penalty and he still has plenty more to offer. He should handle the rise in class and is a major contender from a handy draw. There isn’t another natural pacesetter in the line-up so the Justin Snaith charge could enjoy the run of the race.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 5: SCHOOL RUN(1)

Jockey: Aldo DOMEYER – Trainer: Willem A NEL

The four-year-old SCHOOL RUN got her career back on track when equipped with blinkers at a slightly higher level last time out. The daughter of Trippi fought hard to win over six furlongs that day and she now has her third run after that lengthy absence. She picked up a hefty six-pound penalty but is effective over this extra furlong and still has plenty of room for improvement. She has cracked the best draw and could continue the red-hot form of her yard.
