Magic Tips Best Bets

TOP BET
Race 1: RAND HEDGE(1)Jockey: Anton MARCUS – Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

RAND HEDGE has shown plenty of promise to date and he fought hard when going down narrowly over this c & d on his seasonal debut, two weeks ago. His conditioner isn’t renowned for pushing them hard during their breaks so there should be further progress to come from the Kildonan gelding who will strip fitter now. He has the services of another top class jockey and can go one better.

Race 4: MANOUCHE(1)
Jockey: Muzi YENI – Trainer: Dennis BOSCH

MANOUCHE showed lots of promise on the polytrack as a juvenile and he would have strengthened during his 17-week absence. He met some decent sorts along the way, most notably subsequent Grade 2 victor Zodiac Ruler. The Dennis Bosch inmate often finishes his races well and he should continue to progress as a three-year-old. He gets the services of Muzi Yeni and holds strong claims, with the only reservation being how he will handle the grass.

Race 6: BUFFALO SOLDIER(8)
Jockey: Anton MARCUS–  Trainer: Charles LAIRD
The three-year-old BUFFALO SOLDIER showed decent quality last season and he weakened late into 4th in a Grade 2 event over seven furlongs last time out. He was gelded during his 14-week break and the Charles Laird inmate still has plenty of improvement to come. He has a little bit of work to do at the weights in this graduation contest but is progressive and can make a winning seasonal debut.

Race 7: RAP ATTACK(4)

Jockey: Anton MARUS – Trainer: Glen KOTZEN

RAP ATTACKis holding his form well but he was expected to go closer than 3rd in his last ten furlongs effort on the polytrack. Trainer Glen Kotzen’s charge is equally effective on the grass though and he drops in class today. He won’t have any issues with the likely sedate gallop and the son of Go Deputy has a fair track record.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 3: CRYSTAL RIVER(1)

Jockey: Eric S NGWANE – Trainer: Mike DE KOCKThis is a most intriguing maiden contest as the principle duo in the betting market, are badly drawn and that paves the way for the Mike de Kock-trained daughter of Biarritz, CRYSTAL RIVER. This three-year-old bay filly is improving with each outing and she stayed on for a well-beaten 3rd over a mile in yielding conditions on this track, two weeks ago. However, it must be quickly added that she was carried inwards on that occasion. She should continue to progress and the slight drop in distance will suit her better. She is well drawn at gate 4 and will again benefit from a 1.5kgs apprentice claim.
