The Sean Tarry yard is well represented in this small graduation field and the stable elect TRIP TO HEAVEN is clearly the horse to beat. S’manga Khumalo’s ride had excuses for his only flop of his short career but that was in a Grade 1 at Greyville last time out and he was returning from a lengthy 28 week absence. He would have needed the outing and should strip much fitter today. The bay colt showed top ability at feature level prior to that and is extremely well treated by the weights. He is unbeat- en over this c & d and despite not being fully wound-up, he should take a power of beating.
Race 4: SCHILLACI(1)
Jockey: Sturgeon I – Trainer: Van Zyl G H
SCHILLACI seemed in need of his comeback run three weeks ago and he will strip fitter today. He has already shown useful ability and produced his career best performance over this trip in his penultima- te outing. He meets another competitive field but has strong claims with Sturgeon retaining the ride.

Race 9: DEO JUVENTE(2)
Jockey: Marcus A – Trainer: Woodruff G V
This is yet another intriguing affair, particularly as many of the principle contenders are returning from layoffs. However, a likely sedate gallop could play into their hands and DEO JUVENTE’s swift turn of foot will stand him in good stead. The Geoff Woodruff inmate ended last season with two facile back-to-back wins over this distance and he is ready for the step-up in grade. He would have benefitt- ed from the twelve week layoff and the engaging of Marcus suggests that his conditioner will have him fit and ready. The Trippi gelding has plenty of progress to come and he could have a good season.
Race 11: RICH AND DARK(10)
Jockey: Yeni M – Trainer: Van Zyl G H
The three-year olds could have a big say in this final event and the Bajan Fantasy formline is worth following. RICH AND DARK is one of three entrants from the in-form Van Zyl yard and Muzi Yeni’s ride showed good improvement over a mile in the contest referred to above. The well-related daughter of Mogok ran on nicely for 4th in that event and her pedigree suggests that she will relish this extra furlong. She has plenty more improvement to offer but it will be interesting to see how she fares with blinkers fitted for the first time.

There should again be a decent gallop in this contest and an exciting finish is expected. The five year old bay mare COBY has been thereabouts in her last few runs, without really threatening a victory but she will relish today’s pace and can provide an upset with her low mass. The daughter of A P Arrow has almost six lengths to find on the likely favourite STORM WARNING when the pair met over 3000m on this track three runs back but she is 3kgs better off with her conqueror and will prefer this drop in distance. She has placed in her only c & d outing.
