WRITTEN drifted alarmingly in the betting market but still produced an exciting debut over six furlongs on this track, four weeks ago. She finished strongly for a close 3rd, beaten just under one length at the line and that experience would have brought her on. The daughter of Western Winter should relish the step up to the mile and she is a lively contender from her midfield draw.
Race 3: SEEKING GOLD(10)
Jockey: Andrew FORTUNE – Trainer: Gary ALEXANDER
SEEKING GOLD was completely unfancied when she made a bright debut over 1450m on this track, three weeks ago. The chestnut filly set the pace and she was outrun late into 2nd, beaten just under one length at the line. That first experience would have brought her on significantly and the formline was franked when the 3rd placed runner, Jo Mambo, trotted up in her maiden win last Thursday. The drop to six furlongs is a slight concern but the daughter of Golden Sword has cracked the best draw and she deserves the utmost respect.
Race 7: GOLD SHADES(9)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Coenie DE BEER
GOLD SHADES often makes eye-catching late headway and she could be the ‘ideal’ mount for ‘Striker’. The Mogok filly wasn’t given the strongest of rides by the apprentice in her fair last start but she showed her true capabilities with an impressive penultimate victory over this c & d at this level. She clearly has an affinity for this tight circuit and can cause the upset here.
Race 8: ARPAD(3)
ARPAD is holding his form well and he boasts a decent track record. The form of his penultimate outing was given a boost when the 3rd placed finisher Raise The Red finished a creditable 3rd in the gigantic field in the Grand Heritage event held recently. This four-year-old bay gelding finished runner-up in his only c & d showing and he merits healthy respect from a handy draw.
