UK Racing Best Bets – Tuesday 14 January 2020

Tuesday 17 December 2019

Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips from UK Racing at Chelmsford, Doncaster and Exeter on Tuesday 14 January 2020.

Chelmsford Best Bets

Race 1: EQUIPPED (4)
Trainer: Mick Channon
Jockey: Nicola Currie

EQUIPPED is completely unexposed compared to the other four runners and therefore open to greater improvement. The selection was a 33-1 roughie when troubling the judge and staying on nicely towards the finish here earlier in the month, and shouldn’t mind reverting to five furlongs.

Race 6: MIZUKI (8)
Trainer: Andrew Balding
Jockey: David Probert

MIZUKI is very lightly-raced for a 5yo but didn’t do much wrong on her second career start at Windsor, albeit six months ago. She clearly has issues but has looked good in her preparation for this. The mare can show these foes a clean pair of heels.

Race 7: THE GAME IS ON (4)
Trainer: Sir Mark Prescott
Jockey: Luke Morris

There’s a ring of consistency about THE GAME IS ON that can lend itself to the 4yo to take this finale. He made a good fist of trying to wire a similar contest at Wolverhampton and is out again quickly to try to go one better.

Doncaster Best Bets

Race 3: THE BIG BITE (7)
Trainer: Tom George
Jockey: Jonathan Burke

Connections of THE BIG BITE have taken their time with the gelding since he was beaten a distance by Mister Tommytucker at Kempton. In hindsight that was a baptism of fire for the selection in his first chase, in which he remained competitive until the first fence in the home straight. His jumping did leave something to be desired but has been worked on.

Race 6: THEFLICKERINGLIGHT (2)
Trainer: Phil Kirby
Jockey: Tommy Dowson

Winning this and completing a fine hat-trick looks to be within the compass of THEFLICKERINGLIGHT whose trainer has green fingers when tutoring fast-improving mares of her ilk. On her latest start at Wetherby, she landed some good bets in style, and never looked in any danger. Furthermore, she’s delighted in her work subsequently.

Exeter Best Bets

Race 4: WHITEHOTCHILLIFILI (1)
Trainer: Harry Fry
Jockey: Sean Bowen

This is best left to WHITEHOTCHILLIFILI who looks to hold all the cards following her dominating triumph at Wincanton last month. Despite tending to jump left and lose ground, she came home unchallenged and a reversion to a right-handed course cannot be a bad thing.

Race 6: BROADCLYST (7)
Trainer: Chris Down
Jockey: James Davies

BROADCLYST has finished second in three of his last six outings and deserves the ball to finally go into the net. A testament to his ability was a narrow defeat at Wincanton last time where he was beaten in a photo by Worthy Farm. He’s still lurking in the lower regions of the weights and should put the record straight and deservedly go one better.
