Neil Morrice brings us all of his best bets and tips from UK Racing at Southwell, Lingfield and Newcastle on Tuesday 28 January 2020.
Southwell Best Bets
Race 2: DUNE OF PILAT (3)
Trainer: Joseph O’Brien
Jockey: S Crosse
This should be a penalty kick for DUNE OF PILAT representing top connections from Ireland. He impressively opened his account on Polytrack at Dundalk at the end of last month and only has to prove his effectiveness of Fibresand to follow up.
Race 4: WASNTEXPECTINGTHAT (6)
Trainer: Richard Fahey
Jockey: S P Davis
As a winner of three of his last four, WASNTEXPECTINGTHAT will be very hard to beat in this sprint handicap. He literally demolished his rivals in a Class 5 at Newcastle, winning with any amount in hand, and although making a big move up the ladder should confirm he’s a horse on the up and up.
Lingfield Best Bets
Race 3: ECHO WATT (3)
Trainer: Richard Hobson
Jockey: Jonathan Burke
The gamble that went astray on ECHO WATT at this course a fortnight ago can be recouped with interest by the lightly raced gelding who was only run out of it on the run in. His trainer does especially well with this type of individual who can continued his upward spiral over this suitably longer trip.
Newcastle Best Bets
Race 2: UNCLE JONTY (2)
Trainer: Nicky Richards
Jockey: R Day
UNCLE JONTY defied the odds to successfully return from a protracted absence at Kelso to preserve his unbeaten record under Rules. Although he had luck on his side by being left clear at the final flight, he’s benefitted from the outing and should be hard to beat.
Race 3: HILL SIXTEEN (7)
Trainer: Sue Smith
Jockey: Danny Cook
Having endured a strangely quiet start to his chasing campaign, HILL SIXTEEN really got his act together after being backed as if defeat was out of the question to score decisively at Sedgefield. It’s thought to have given this talented 7yo a big confidence boost and he can go in again.
