Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 3: GERTJIE(1)
Jockey: Weicho Marwing – Trainer: W H Marwing
GERTJIE relished the rise in ground as he ran on late for 2nd over nine furlongs recently and the lightly raced son of Rock Of Rochelle should progress further over this extra distance today. The five year old chestnut COLLEGIATE is clearly plagued with issues but he needed both his comeback runs and could bounce back to best in his first attempt over ten furlongs today. He gets the services of an in- form jockey.
Race 4: SECRET POTION(5)
Jockey: G Lerena – Trainer: G Woodruff
There are some really smart three-year olds on display in this highly competitive handicap, the forml- ine of which could be worth following. The Woodruff inmate SECRET POTION is progressing quickly and she finished strongly to narrowly defeat subsequent winner Braxton over shorter on this course despite top weight late last year. Her pedigree indicates that the daughter of Elusive Fort will relish this step-up in distance and she could prove to be better than rated, albeit this is her stiffest test yet.
Race 7: ALSHIBAA(1)
Jockey: C Murray – Trainer: M De Kock
The Mike de Kock yard holds a strong hand in this handicap over a mile and the son of Street Cry, ALSHIBAA could be the right one. The smart bay has a short but extremely effective burst of speed which may be conducive to this track and today’s likely sedate gallop will suit him perfectly. He won his handicap debut in his only c & d performance.
TOP BET
Race 8: MAPLE SYRUP(3)
Jockey: C Murray – Trainer: M De Kock
The unbeaten MAPLE SYRUP appears extremely progressive and she posted two eye-catching victories late last year. The margin of victory was less but she had plenty in hand when defeating the promising Star Profile over seven furlongs earlier this summer and the daughter of Silvano should love the mile. She would have strengthened during the ten week break and could certainly be one worth following in the upcoming Classics.
VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:
Race 6: CAPTAIN ALDO(4)
Jockey: K Zechner – St John Gray
Jockey: K Zechner – St John Gray
The veteran campaigner CAPTAIN ALDO, like most of his rivals, is slightly out at the weights with the best weighted entrant HEAPS OF FUN but this track could suit the seven-year olds running style. He was nabbed late with the frontrunning tactics over his favourite distance recently but had the bay mare KILAUEA exactly two lengths adrift and the pair meet on identical weight terms.
