The solitary filly in this three-year-old handicap, BIBLICAL SUSAN is above-average. She built on her pleasing first run when fighting on gamely to record her maiden win over six furlongs on her Highveld debut three weeks ago. She has definite scope for improvement and today’s extra furlong should be right up her alley. The imported filly should be up to the stiff task at hand.

KING OF THRONES stays all day and has by far the best credentials in this marathon maiden contest. He has got back to his best in recent starts and fought on gamely when outrun late into 2nd, four weeks ago. He finished comfortably ahead of the disappointing RED RENEGADE that day and does have this race at his mercy. However, the four-year-old gelding is an ordinary sort so definite caution is advised.
Race 6: HERMOSO MUNDO(1)Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Alec LAIRD
HERMOSO MUNDO has continued his smart form over ground but still doesn’t get equipped with blinkers today. He shifted his ground at crucial stages of his last event when going down narrowly to ROYAL HONOUR (0.5kg worse off) over a similar trip recently but is again selected to beat the odds. The Alec Laird inmate is definitely worth following.
Race 7: TAMBALANG(2)
Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Sean TARRY
TAMBALANG is above-average and only a slow start cost her possible victory on the tight inside track at Turffontein on her handicap debut, four weeks ago. The daughter of Go Deputy thrashed her maiden rivals prior to that when showing a smart turn of foot and that burst of speed will be called upon today, in a likely false run affair. She does seem way ahead of the handicapper and should take a power of beating. This longer run-in will suit her perfectly.
Race 8: AQUA BLUE(13)
Jockey: Callan MURRAY – Trainer: Alec LAIRD
AQUA BLUE bounced back to form when he finished strongly for 3rd in a similar handicap over a mile on the classic track last month. He now has his peak showing and today’s extra furlong suits the five-year-old better. The bay gelding jumps from a good draw and is one of only two rides on the card for his in-form apprentice jockey.
