TOP BET
Race 1: DEVADIP(4)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Joe SOMA

DEVADIP
looks a promising sort who is improving with every run & he is certainly one worth following. Unfortunately, he found another potentially top sort a length and a quarter better than him on the tight inside circuit at Turffontein recently but was still well clear of the 3rd placed finisher. The Captain Al colt will relish the rise to ten furlongs and he should take a power of beating from the best draw. Interestingly, he is the yard’s solitary entrant on the day.

Race 2: JUST CRUISED IN(2)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM – Trainer: Gavin VAN ZYL

JUST CRUISED IN is a narrow first selection in a very competitive maiden event. The inmate from the Van Zyl yard has shown useful ability in his three runs to date and was returning from a lengthy 23 week absence when he ran on again for 2nd in his comeback run over a mile, two weeks ago. That outing clearly indicated that he is searching for further and he will be much sharper this time around, particularly with blinkers fitted for the first time. It is most encouraging that ‘Striker’ keeps the ride.

Race 5: REFUGE(6)

Jockey: S’manga KHUMALO – Trainer: Scott KENNY

The smart and progressive three-year-old REFUGE produced a powerful finish to beat a tough older handicapper going away under a big mass in soft conditions over this c & d recently and he clearly has plenty more to offer. The Toreador gelding takes on considerably stronger now but he shoulders a handy galloping mass and should prove more than equal to the task at hand. Top jockey S’manga Khumalo gets the ride.

Race 7: MAGIC(9)

Jockey: Sherman BROWN – Trainer: Leon ERASMUS

The Leon Erasmus yard holds a decent hand in this competitive sprint and MAGIC can follow up on his recent c & d success after returning from a 15-week break. He kept on well to beat KAPITAN (1kg better off) that day and will be fitter here. The Mogok gelding is usually consistent and he should provide another solid display. The latter bounced back to form with that solid last run but he probably found the minimum trip too sharp for him. He still deserves inclusion though.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 8: MALINGA(5)
Jockey: Juan-Paul v.d.MERWE – Trainer: Alec LAIRD

MALINGA
has moderate post maiden form but he continues to drop in the merit ratings and his last run gave every indication that he could relish today’s step-up in distance. The Alec Laird inmate is bred to love the extra furlong and he represents decent each/way value in this low-key affair.
