Top Bet
Race 2: RUBYBAY(1)
Jockey: Sherman BROWN – Trainer: Ormond FERRARIS

RUBYBAY has shown much-improved form since changing stables and her conditioner has found the ‘perfect race for her to shed her maiden tag. She is better than her record over this distance suggests and holds strong claims for her in-form yard.

Race 3: EGO AMIGO(5)

Jockey: Juan-Paul VAN DER MERVE – Trainer: Mike DE KOCK

EGO AMIGO drifted alarmingly in the betting market on debut and was never really in the hunt when finishing a well-beaten 4th after being slow into stride over the seven furlongs on this track. That said, the imported colt may not have been fully wound-up that day and he took on some decent types. Furthermore, that formline could be worth following and the experience should be priceless for the son of Redoute’s Choice who will appreciate this extra furlong. He could have plenty of improvement to come.

Race 4: JACKMAN(10)
Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Brian WIID

JACKMAN clearly benefitted from his debut experience as he showed smart improvement to register a cracking second out at Turffontein, three weeks ago. The chestnut colt finished strongly and only failed by a head at the line and he had the 3rd placed finisher Bono almost four lengths further adrift. That formline has worked out well as Fearless Fred (fin.8th 11.40 lengths) produced a smart subsequent effort. This son of Global One should continue to progress and he is the one to beat.

Race 7: IRISH PRIDE(1)

Jockey: Gavin LERENA – Trainer: Johan JANSE VAN VUUREN

IRISH PRIDE may have felt the effects of his trip to KZN when he performed below-par in stronger company over this c & d, eight weeks ago. The Ideal World gelding is much better than that showing and the short rest would have helped his cause. He drops in class today and the four-year-old still has decent scope for progress.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY:

Race 5: ZORTZIKO(5)

Jockey: Randall SIMONS – Trainer: Johan JANSE VAN VUUREN

The c & d specialist ZORTZIKO has fair recent form & he is again reaching a competitive merit rating. The speedy six-year-old may have things to himself in the early stages of this contest and he can cause the upset. His last victory came under this red-hot jockey and over this c & d in early May.
