Magic Tips Best Bets

Race 2: MISS MAGICIAN (11)
Jockey: Hewitson L – Trainer: Tarry S

MISS MAGICIAN raced from just off the pace last time, but found one too good in the form of Green Taffety. The daughter of Willow Magic takes on the males today, but she carries a handy galloping mass of 54.5kgs and should be up to the task at hand.

Race 4: CASTLE CORNER (1)
Jockey: De Gouveia D – Trainer: Pettigrew S

CASTLE CORNER is still a maiden after 11 starts, but has finished second in his last two outings. He raced from a handy position last time and stayed on at the finish. The son of Ideal World is having his peak run and should be cherry-ripe. With a bit of luck from his wide draw, he should be the one to beat.

Race 5: SOPHIA’S FIRST (3)
Jockey: Khumalo S – Trainer: Azzie M G/A A

SOPHIA’S FIRST has good recent form lines to her credit. She took on winners in her last start and was unlucky not to have won as her pilot dropped his crop at the 50m mark. The daughter of Noble Tune is back against maidens this afternoon and S’manga Khumalo will be looking to make amends.

Race 7: WILLOW EXPRESS (2)
Jockey: Hewitson L – Trainer: Tarry S

WILLOW EXPRESS is unbeaten from two starts since being gelded. He showed good guts and determination when winning his last start over 1450m on the Turffontein Inside course. The son of Willow Magic makes his course debut today and if suited to the track, can notch up the hat-trick.

Race 8: ALEX THE GREAT (8)
Jockey: Lerena G – Trainer: Magner R

ALEX THE GREAT was bumped at the start last time, but finished his race off well. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from ten starts over this C&D. The 6yo gelding takes a drop in class this afternoon and Gavin Lerena may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
