What is a swinger bet?

A swinger is a bet that where you select a minimum of two horses in a particular race. These selections have to finish in the first three places in any order for your bet to be considered winning.

This means that for each race there will be three dividends for each race: first and second, first and third as well as second and third. 

You can select more than two horses to form part of your swinger, but remember that the bet will cost you R1 per combination.

There are three different variants of this bet: the Swinger, Boxed Swinger and Banker Swinger. We’ll take a look at each below:

Swinger

Simply put, here you need to select two horses to run in the top three positions in any order. 

For example, if you select numbers 1 and 2, the bet will cost you R1. You will need number 1 and 2 to finish in the first three places of the race in order for your bet to be a winner.

Banker 

This variation of the bet simply requires you to “bank” one horse to finish inside of the top three along with at least one of the other selections.  

For example, if you select number 2 as a banker followed by 3 and 6. This bet will cost R2 if you take the bet for R10 you will have the bet five times.

The above table represents a bet containing three combinations (4&1, 4&2, 4&3) – 3 combinations means that this bet will cost you R3. You will need number 4 to run in the first three and any one of numbers 1, 2 or 3 to also run in the top three to win the bet. The amount you win will be determined by the pool and the amount that you stake.

Boxed

To take a swinger boxed means that you need to select a minimum of two horses to finish in either first, second or third in any order. 

If selecting three horses your bet will cost R9 to take once.

For example 1, 2, 3 boxed. You will need only two of the three two run in the first three in order for your bet to win. However, if all three run in the first three, you will catch the bet 3 ways:

1 & 2

1 & 3

2 & 3

In this scenario, if you had taken the bet for R10 you will catch the bet 3.33 times for each combination.

The amount of money you win is dependant on the pool and the result.

An open bet is a bet offered by Hollywoodbets on one or more events in which no fixed odds are agreed at the time the bet is placed and the winnings and therefore the payout is determined after the outcome of the event on which such bet was struck becomes known, with reference to dividends generated by a totalisator.

Difference between Open Bet and Tote Bet

An Open Bet is a tote/TAB type bet taken with a bookmaker. The bookmaker – in this case, Hollywoodbets – lays the bet, and pays the dividend as declared by the tote on the winning combinations.
