Kabuya replaces goalkeeper Nicola Smith, who sustained an injury during the opening match against Jamaica at the Margaret Beckford Sunshine Series just over a week ago.

The tournament take place from February 1 to 9, 2025, in England, and will feature four nations: South Africa, England, Malawi, and Uganda, all vying for the title of this year’s champions.

The opening match will see South Africa face Uganda, followed by England’s clash and Malawi.

In their previous encounter at the Africa Netball Cup finals, South Africa emerged victorious over Uganda.

Kabuya expressed her excitement about the unexpected opportunity to represent her country.

“I wasn’t expecting this at all. I’m excited to represent South Africa, and I’m committed to giving my best on the court. I want to make my friends, family, and my country proud,” she said.

This marks another milestone in Kabuya’s career, as she previously represented South Africa in the 2024 Fast5 competition and played for the Spar Baby Proteas.

Following the announcement by Netball South Africa, fans have expressed their excitement and sent well wishes to Kabuya.

Theron Rapoo-Masia shared: “I love seeing these young players getting the exposure they need. May this be just the beginning for Kabuya… Sending love to the team.”

Vanessa van Vollenhoven added: “Well deserved, Kabuya! Go out there and do what you do best. May this inspire all the talented young women out there who may doubt their own potential.”

Sine Londie KaMazibuko also wished Kabuya well, stating, “She deserves this opportunity.”
