Guiness Six Nations: England v France Preview

rugby player dives over to score a try

England will be looking to build on their victory over Ireland when they play host to France on Saturday the 9th of February.

Anglo-French rivalries will be renewed this weekend as England and France square off at “Rugby HQ’. The hosts head into this one off the back of a marvelous victory over reigning champions Ireland, while France make a daunting trip to the English capital having blown a massive lead against the Welsh.

England v France
Twickenham Stadium
Saturday 9 February
17:00

To Win (80 Mins)
England 2/13
Draw 25/1
France 9/2

Handicap
England (-12.5) 9/10
France (+12.5) 9/10

England
The pressure is well and truly off English mentor Eddie Jones, with his side’s 20-32 away victory in Dublin putting the English press and fans back on side.

The bonus point victory was thoroughly deserved, with every Englishman outclassing his opposite number at the Aviva last weekend. A special mention must go to fly-half Owen Farrell, though, who was absolutely magnificent on the day, as he outclassed highly rated opposite number Johhny Sexton.

While the English backs thrived off Farrell’s superb play, it was the forward pack that laid the groundwork for that famous victory in Ireland. The likes of Mako Vunipoala, Mario Itoje and George Kruis put in almighty shifts as England bossed an Irish pack that had the better of the all-conquering All Blacks last November.

France
Ah, France, how you are able to capitulate at the most inopportune times. The French were in the driver’s seat against the Welsh last weekend, taking a seemingly unassailable 16 point lead into the half-time break.

The shrewd punter out there would have jumped on the Welsh at a massive price during last weekend’s half-time break, as true to form, the men from the European mainland ended up surrendering their massive lead to go down 19-24.

The French tend to up their game in the English capital, so despite heir poor opening to the campaign don’t expect them to roll over at Twickenham this coming weekend.

Verdict: France (+12.5) 9/10
The French tend to put on a show in London and I can see them running the hosts close here. The +12.5 handicap offers great value at 9/10.
