Kaunda Ntunja’s Round 1 Super Rugby Predictions

Phaka Predictions - Kaunda Ntunja - Hollywoodbets

Our man, Kaunda Ntunja of SuperSport’s Phaka Powered by Hollywoodbets, gives us his Super Rugby tips for the first round of the 2020 edition of the tournament!

Blues vs Chiefs

The Chiefs have a good record against the Blues in this tournament. Sadly for the Blues, their star signing Beauden Barrett will only be available in April as he is still on a holiday that was granted by the All Blacks. Even though the Chiefs still don’t have Damian McKenzie available I believe they can still sneak a win here.

Chiefs to win by 6 points.

Brumbies vs Reds

The Reds haven’t won in Canberra since 2014. When you look at the Brumbies squad this season, they look like the team that will win the Aussie conference. Reds have bought James O’Connor and Henry Speight to fire up their backline but they are seriously lacking in the forwards.

Brumbies to win by 10 points.

Sharks vs Bulls

Both of these teams have lost a helluva lot of experienced players to Europe and Japan. As I predicted last year, the Bulls ended up as the best team in SA in 2019. This season however they are basically starting to build from scratch because of the mass exodus. This will be very close and the battle between Curwin Bosch and Morne Steyn will be the major difference.

Sharks to win by 3 points.

Sunwolves vs Rebels

The Sunwolves have never beaten the Rebels in Super Rugby before. They have loaded their side with a lot of foreign players to the point whereby you can’t even recognize this as a Japanese outfit. On paper, the Sunwolves are stronger than the Rebels.

Sunwolves to win by 12 points.

Crusaders vs Waratahs

The Crusaders are once again the team to beat. The 10-time champions will be extremely difficult to put away at home and this can only go one way.

Crusaders to win by 20 points.

Stormers vs Hurricanes

My pick for the best SA team in 2020 is the Stormers. They have nine Boks in their starting lineup including a Welsh international at inside centre, Jamie Roberts. This is going to be a massive clash because the Hurricanes, who are title contenders, have picked a solid lineup for this one. Both teams have got weak benches so early momentum will be the key. I am going to go for the home team here in a closely contested battle.

Stormers to win by 5 points.

Jaguares vs Lions

After the unbelievable performance in 2019, I don’t see the Jaguares slipping up against a team that is still in transition.

Jaguares to win by 15 points.
