There is only one Currie Cup fixture this weekend due to the Bulls and Western Provine playing warm-up fixtures for the British and Irish Lions tour and the Sharks game against the Pumas being cancelled due to the unrest in KwaZulu-Natal.

While we only have one fixture to look forward to, it should still be a cracker as Cheetahs and Lions both play entertaining brands of rugby.

The Cheetahs have been a bit hit and miss during the opening salvos of the Currie Cup with the men from Bloemfontein beaten 31-10 by the Griquas in their opener.

They then bounced back last weekend in less than emphatic fashion as they ground out a 17-16 win against the Pumas.

Their hosts have won one and lost one of the two fixtures they have played. Their victory came against Western Province (38-32) in Round 2 while they went down 39-10 to the Pumas in the opening round.

Both teams are missing some of their big-name players with Frans Steyn and Roscoe Specman on Springbok duty and unavailable for the Cheetahs while Wandisile Simalane is also on Bok duty and missing for the Lions.

The Cheetahs are likely to get a number of players back this week with a handful of their men having finished their COVID quarantine periods and a few others coming back from niggly injuries.

Verdict Cheetahs

I really fancy the Cheetahs chances here. They will be fielding a strong squad and I feel they’ll give the Lions a proper go.
