Marx in Doubt for Springbok June Tests

Pierre Schoeman Banned for Six Weeks for biting a Reds player

Springbok hooker Malcolm Marx will have a scan on Tuesday to determine the extent of an injury suffered in the Lions’ defeat to the Hurricanes.

The front-rower went off early because of a groin issue and it proved to be a huge blow to the Johannesburg-based outfit as they went down 28-19 on Saturday.

It will concern Springboks’ boss Rassie Erasmus with Marx a standout performer for the national team over the past year.

He won the SA Rugby Player of the Year last season and would be a certainty to start against Wales and England in June, but that is now in doubt.

“Losing Malcolm so early was a big blow,” Lions’ head coach Swys de Bruin said. “He’ll undergo scans on Tuesday and then we’ll see.”
