Phaka Predictions – Super Rugby 2020 – Round 6

Phaka Predictions - Kaunda Ntunja - Hollywoodbets

Our man, Kaunda Ntunja of SuperSport’s Phaka Powered by Hollywoodbets, gives us his Super Rugby tips for the sixth round of the 2020 edition of the tournament!

Sunwolves vs Brumbies

Unfortunately for the Sunwolves, the devastating outbreak of the Coronavirus has forced the fixture to move from Asia to Australia in Wollongong. So this means that over and above the fact that the Sunwolves have been the whipping boys of the competition they now no longer have the luxury of a home fixture probably for the remainder of the tournament. This will only go one way.

Phaka Prediction: Brumbies to win by 40 points.

Crusaders vs Reds

The Reds look like a side with potential that could one day be a threat in the competition but for now, while they are in transition, they won’t be able to compete with the tournament’s genuine contenders. Many thought they had turned the corner after thrashing the Sunwolves by 60 points but the Sharks quickly put an end to that story. The Crusaders have 7 current All Blacks in their starting lineup and they will not show any mercy here. They know that to remain on top of the New Zealand Conference they have to win with bonus points against teams like these. The Reds will be desperate and might put up a fight but unfortunately, they are nowhere near good enough for a win here.

Phaka Prediction: Crusaders to win by 20 points.

Waratahs vs Chiefs

Two weeks ago the Chiefs suffered a major upset losing to the Brumbies at home. Since then they’ve had a bye and this weekend the return of Lachlan Boshier is going to make a massive difference. The Waratahs swept away a poor Lions outfit last week in what was their first win of the season however, they still haven’t fronted up against strong opposition. I do believe that this match will be close mostly because the Chiefs don’t have a tight 5 but they do have everything else.

Phaka Prediction: Chiefs to win by 5 points.

Hurricanes vs Blues

This one will be very interesting. The Blues did the unthinkable and beat the Bulls at Loftus and the Stormers at Newlands. They are probably riding on the highest of all highs and will go to this fixture brimming with confidence. The issue though is that this Hurricanes team is so strong on paper and the return of Jordie Barrett just makes things even harder for the Blues. Akira Ioane returns at 8 for the Blues to replace the impressive Hoskins Sotutu who has been rested. Fireworks, entertainment and tries galore is what I am expecting in this match. I will, however, have to go with the home side.

Phaka Prediction: Hurricanes to win by 10 points.

Rebels vs Lions

The Lions have finally decided to give Wandisile Simelane an opportunity to start at 13. This youngster is very exciting and don’t be surprised if he gets a Bok call up despite the limited game time he’s had in his union. The Rebels have an unchanged match 23 after their massive win against the Highlanders in Dunedin last week. That win was a first in Dunedin for the franchise and they have all the reason to believe that they can win this one too. This should be a very close match with the home side likely to pull it out of the fire in the dying minutes.

Phaka Prediction: Rebels to win by 3 points.

Sharks vs Jaguares

I am so glad that I managed to get the Sharks match vs the Reds correctly as I was beginning to doubt my knowledge of this Sharks outfit a little bit. They have a lot of skill and a lot of pace and can certainly take on the best teams in the competition. This match comes after a long 4-week tour and they will be up against a Jaguares side that decimated the Bulls at Loftus. If the Sharks can go into the halftime break ahead then they should be able to pull off a win. Makazole Mapimpi and Sbu Nkosi return for the Sharks and that will definitely lift them even more.

Phaka Prediction: Sharks to win by 8 points.

Bulls vs Highlanders

I would’ve said that this will be an easy win for the Highlanders but this weekend we will see a totally different Bulls side as their coach Pote Human has made a lot of changes to his team and the most glaring are at scrumhalf and flyhalf. Mannie Libbok and Embrose Papier finally get a start and one wonders how different their style of play will be. In the Highlanders side, All Black Shannon Frizell returns to the starting lineup in what is clearly an anticipation of a physical encounter. Bulls will win their first match of the year here.

Phaka Prediction: Bulls to win by 6 points.
