The men from Durban have decided to make 14 changes to the team that narrowly lost to Benetton Rugby last week Saturday will be hoping the new stars will still come with that competitive spirit.

Meanwhile, the other senior guys in the team will set off for London this weekend as they look to prepare for the EPCR Challenge final.

Hugo’s lock partner Corne Rahl is the only player to retain his place from last weekend’s defeat to Benetton.

The team to face Cardiff sees plenty of new combinations, with Boeta Chamberlain starting at fullback and wings Yaw Penxe and Aphiwe Dyantyi.

Diego Appolis makes his first URC start after making his tournament debut off the bench last week and is joined in midfield by winger Eduan Keyter, who steps in with Murray Koster suspended and Ethan Hooker recovering from injury.

Veteran flyhalf Lionel Cronje makes his first start of the season alongside 21-year-old scrumhalf Tiaan Fourie, who gets his first start for the Sharks.

A new-look back row sees Sikhumbuzo Notshe earn his 50th cap for the Sharks, while Simon Miller will make his debut at blindside flank and Tino Mavesere starts at openside flank.

There are also potential Sharks debuts for loosehead prop Braam Reyneke and Junior Springbok lock Thomas Dyer, both named on the bench, while Curwin Bosch is set to make his return from injury as a substitute.
