Aphelele Fassi

Another day, another Man of the Match performance by Aphelele Fassi in a Hollywoodbets Sharks jersey. A late yellow aside, the Weekend Special was in sublime form again as he set up Ethan Hooker for their side’s first try thanks to an accurate draw and pass out wide, made 54 metres in the carry and remained solid at the back. His sparks of attacking creativity continue to keep the opposition guessing.

Vincent Tshituka

Tshituka loves himself a big hit, with a few of the 11 tackles he made on Saturday – and one early shot on Herschel Jantjies in particular – sparking groans from those in attendance. The Congolese blindsider continues to grow his role in the black and white No 7 jersey, and his showing against the Stormers – which also included a turnover and 36 carry metres – was another huge step forward.

Siya Kolisi

Siya showed no signs of fatigue following the Springboks’ year-end tour up north, scoring a try against his former side, throwing an offload and making three crucial steals on the deck – something we don’t often see from him. The 33-year-old is making a proper impact in the eighthman role for the Sharks, and his loose trio combination with James Venter and Vincent Tshituka continues to show plenty of potential.

Andre Esterhuizen

What a signing he’s been on his return to the Sharks. Aside from his many other attributes, Andre the Giant’s raw power makes him an ever-present threat to opposition defences, with his ability to break the line at any given moment providing his team with a massive weapon. Case in point, he barged over for the Durbanites’ third try, while also making 79 metres with the ball and linking up exceptionally well with his outside backs.

Makazole Mapimpi

Drex wasn’t on the scoresheet this week, but he still put in a quality shift under the high ball and on both sides of the ball. He carried for a huge 105 metres, made seven carries across the gainline and broke the line three times in a typically classy outing.
