With just the one midweek PSL fixture, almost all teams are back in action this weekend in a gameweek that should settle a few bunched areas of the log. Finishing in the top eight is still up for grabs for a whole host of sides, whilst a handful are trying to swat off the last relegation spot like a pesky fly. All in all, a fascinating weekend of football awaits.

Ajax Cape Town  1/1
Draw  21/10
Chippa United  28/10
We haven’t had a good Friday night fixture for a while and with both these sides having featured in the upper echelons of the league, we could have a cracker to start the weekend. Disappointingly, Chippa have had a rough run of results recently, slipping down to eleventh after a flying start to season. Ajax have also struggled of late, leaving both sides winless in their last five. The potential for a good game is present however, and with the Ajax’s only loss at home coming against Chiefs this season, Chippa will have a big task to try and overturn that. Ajax are at even money for the win and that looks the value for me in this fixture.

University of Pretoria  13/10
Draw  2/1
Mpumalanga Black Aces  21/10
Despite being separated by just a point on the table, AmaTuks are the form side of the two. Unbeaten in their last five, they host an Aces side a little down on confidence of late. They’ve yet to register a win in 2015 and would’ve hoped this fixture would have been an easier opportunity for three points. Whilst Aces have the side to be able to roll AmaTuks, the home side’s impressive run of league results put them in the driver’s seat for this clash, as well as the obvious advantage that playing at home holds for PSL sides. AmaTuks Draw No Bet seems a safe enough bet to take at 6/10, based on the above evidence.

Orlando Pirates  15/20
Draw  23/10
Polokwane City  36/10
Bucs are up to their usual tricks, with a late season charge up the table. After a less than impressive start, they’ve seemed to pulled things together, sitting clear in fourth spot and chasing down an elusive Top 3 finish. Polokwane aren’t far behind in fifth, having lost just once in their last five. These sides don’t have much head-to-head history, but in the three meetings between them at Orlando Stadium, Polokwane have never won. It will be a tough trip for the away side and with Bucs being priced up at 15/20 for the win, the bookies seem to agree. There’s not value in much else here, so hope the Bucs can continue their run and pick up another win.

Maritzburg United  12/10
Draw  21/10
Free State Stars  23/10
Maritzburg are another side that got off to a rip roaring start to the season but after a recent run of four losses and a draw in their last five, they sit among a host of sides in ninth spot. Stars haven’t really hit their straps this season and find themselves caught up in yet another relegation battle. Maritzburg haven’t kept a clean sheet since a 0-0 draw in early December and this weakness has cost them dearly. If Stars can improve on their away goals tally, they could well come away with something from this.  With Maritzburg at a seemingly healthy 12/10 for the win, it makes the Home Draw No Bet an almost certainty. It’s currently at 5/10 and I’d recommend taking advantage before it shortens. Worst case scenario I see is Stars getting a draw and the punter getting a full refund.

Bloemfontein Celtic  8/10
Draw  22/10
Platinum Stars  36/10
Despite being separated by six points and seven positions on the log, the only real difference between these sides has been Dikwena’s poor defensive record. Averaging well more than a goal conceded per game, Celtic will have their shooting boots on to take advantage of this. The home side’s recent run of results haven’t been that exciting either, but have been consistent enough in gathering points and look to be safe this season. This means they have the chance to focus on a Top 8 finish that should satisfy fans, especially after the rocky start they had to the season. I can’t see Dikwena winning this, but an outright result doesn’t hold much value. I’m heading to the Both Teams To Score No at 13/20 to find some value in an otherwise tough exact result to call.

SuperSport United  11/20
Draw  28/10
AmaZulu  46/10
SuperSport are finally making waves in the league and have started a rather delayed climb up the log. They can take pride in being the first side to beat Chiefs this season and will look to build on this confidence to put in a strong finish. They host a lowly AmaZulu, who couldn’t even overcome KZN NFD side Golden Arrows in the Nedbank Cup. They lost again in midweek to Sundowns and still sit nine points below Platinum Stars in stone last. They seem to be the team to lay and with Matsatsantsa’s recent turnaround it seems inevitable that a home win is on the cards. The bookies agree, providing little value at 11/20, but what seems a sure thing has to be backed.
