AFCON – Ghana vs Comoros – Group C

Ghana are on the brink of a shock group stage exit if they are unable to get all three points against the underdogs Comoros. Yet to find a victory, the Black Stars are in dire need of three points. Comoros have not found any favour in the AFCON either, losing both prior fixtures.

Ghana

Ghana are without question one of the flops of AFCON 2021. The Black Stars faithful always have high expectations of their nation, as do many football fans around the world, but have failed to deliver abysmally.

An opening fixture defeat to Morocco knocked Ghana off their feet and they failed to stand back up in a 1-1 draw with Gabon. The result against the Gabonese left the players and staff alike frustrated and emotions boiled over after the full-time whistle in a scuffle, which saw Benjamin Tettah receive his marching orders.

The Black Stars are always up for it, even when the odds might be against them. Physically and mentally tough, the Ghanaian people will not go down without a fight.

The veteran players like Jordan Ayew, and Thomas Partey have come to the party, but a wholistic display is lacking from the once proud footballing nation of Africa.

Comoros

An opening day mauling from the Panthers of Gabon, followed by a harsher result against Morocco means Comoros are among the only three nations to lose both matchday one and two fixtures. It’s been a baptism of fire for Comoros and their final opponent is unlikely to make life any easier.

Comoros have yet to score a goal in their debut AFCON campaign, alongside Mauritania and shockingly defending-champions Algeria. All the strength will have to be mustered against Ghana, and the absentee list for the Coelacanths is non-existent. It’s all or nothing now, and head coach Amir Abdou is bound to make some changes in the attacking half.

Prediction: Ghana Win (2/7)

While both teams are in dire need of three points if they are to have any shot at progressing from the group stages, it’s as clear cut as they come. Back Ghana to regain a little bit of pride in this edition of the African Cup of Nations. If you’re looking for some value, back Andre Ayew as an anytime goal scorer for the Black Stars at 29/20.
