Manchester United and Arsenal played out to a 2-2 draw in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
United started brightly with Marcus Rashford testing Bern Leno with an early sighter as Arsenal initially sat back and looked to counter.
Darmian though did well to get ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from a Lucas Torreira ball into the area as action ultimately swung from end to end.
The first real chance of the tie saw Sead Kolasinac find Aubameyang in the box, but this time Chris Smalling and Matteo Darmian were on hand to clear. Bellerin’s first-time volley from Guendouzi’s return ball was just wide before the deadlock was broken in bizarre fashion.
Mustafi’s 26th minute diving headed goal was straight at David de Gea but he could only push the ball up and over the line, despite Darmian’s best efforts to clear.
But the home team were level four minutes later as Anthony Martial smashed home from close range after Leno kept out Rojo’s free-kick but only for the ball to drop to Herrera to tee up the goalscorer, despite possibly being offsides.
It was end to end at the start of the second half, with Leno tipping a Marcus Rojo shot just over his goal, before Alexandre Lacazette was fed in on goal by Aubameyang after Rojo gave the ball away.
Rojo slid in to deny Lacazette but only succeeded in the ball rolling past a stranded De Gea.
But United were level straight away as a long ball upfield from the kick-off was swooped upon by Jesse Lingard to poke home after a mix-up between Kolasinac and Leno.
De Gea denied Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan somehow missed from in front of the poles as both sides searched in vain for a winner.
Leno was equal to a late Rashford shot while Lacazette had a goal ruled out – for heading in, out of De Gea’s hands before a Mkhitaryan on the volley on the byline was also denied for offsides.
Ultimately it ended all square with United now four games without a win in the Premier League to sit eight points off the top four and 18 points off leaders Manchester City.
Arsenal are unbeaten in 20 games in all competitions, but drop to fifth with this result.
