The international break is done and dusted – breathe a sigh of relief. We take our viewing to more polished football in the Bundesliga. Bayern Munich has had a torrid start to their campaign and a positive result is now desperately needed. Union Berlin’s home form has spilled over into their away fixtures as well and they sit well comfortably atop the standings, but this may be the opportunity for Borussia Dortmund to steal another title.

7/20 Bayern Munich | Draw 5/1 | Bayer Leverkusen 6/1 (20:30)

Julian Nagelsmann’s time at German giants Bayern Munich is now under major scrutiny. The genesis of the issue seems to be the 4-2-2-2 system, and reports are leaking from the dressing room that players have petitioned against it.

Given the arrangement of the Bavarian roster, and the pressure of feeling like he needs to play certain individuals, the manager might be having trouble finding a solution – and it needs to come quick! Bayer Leverkusen has turned a new leaf when it comes to their run of form and could pose a major threat. I’m backing Both Teams to Score (Yes) at 5/10.

Saturday 1 October

47/20 Cologne | Draw 11/4 | Borussia Dortmund 21/20 (15:30)

Goalless at the break after a tight and physical first half, Borussia Dortmund came out with a point to prove against Schalke. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 79th minute with the 17-year-old substitute Youssoufa Moukoko, who is now the youngest ever goal scorer in the RivierDerby, another piece of folklore added to the history of this incredible fixture.

Cologne’s results are too erratic to even suggest them getting a result, and they’ve scored just one goal in their three home fixtures this season. Back the away team to win with value attached.

12/10 Eintracht Frankfurt | Draw 24/10 | Union Berlin 9/4 (15:30)

A hopeful start to the Bundesliga season means in-form Union Berlin faces Eintracht Frankfurt full of confidence. Union Berlin earned a 2-0 victory over Wolfsburg at home in their last league game to extend their unbeaten start to the league season to seven matches.

Frankfurt also won their last Bundesliga match 3-1 against Stuttgart. This is a tough test for Union, but they have already faced tough opposition and prevailed. The away team on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 6/10 is the play.

1/4 RB Leipzig | Draw 52/10 | Bochum 9/1 (15:30)

I am shocked by the price of a RB Leipzig win. The home team has not been in the best of form with just one victory in their last five (four losses). Despite that 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund, they have scored just one goal.

However, this is the perfect opportunity for new coach Marco Rose to get a good result when they face 18th-placed Bochum who have yet to win this season. But the bookmakers being bullish is a worry. Leipzig to win by Half Time at 13/20.

11/10 Freiburg | Draw 5/2 | Mainz 05 47/20 (15:30)

Hosts Freiburg occupy third place on 14 points after playing out a 0-0 draw in their last Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim, extending their unbeaten streak to five. Mainz have gotten the better of Freiburg of late, unbeaten in their last four Bundesliga encounters.

The home side is looking for their first league win over Mainz since January 2020, and in the current run of form poses a big enough threat to do so. The home side should walk away with a full complement of points.

13/10 Wolfsburg | Draw 49/20 | Stuttgart 21/10 (15:30)

Two sides who know a result here could catapult them away from the bottom lot of the table. Both clubs have just five points, but Stuttgart has yet to win, while Wolfsburg stole three points with a 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Stuttgart’s most recent loss was a 3-1 thumping by Frankfurt, and Die Wolfe might feel they have the edge. I’m inclined to get behind the home side.

33/20 Werder Bremen | Draw 26/10 | Monchengladbach 31/20 (18:30)

Werder Bremen are hoping their home contest against Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday will prove to be the start of a more consistent run of form after an up-and-down start to their Bundesliga campaign.

But the Foals were determined to get back to winning ways last time out when they faced RB Leipzig and did so in stunning fashion, dismembering their opponents 3-0. Get strongly behind Monchengladbach.

Sunday 2 October

2/1 Hertha Berlin | Draw 26/10 | Hoffenheim 5/4 (15:30)

Hertha Berlin always has a strong crowd presence when playing at home, but at the end of the day, the players can only draw so much energy from their faithful.

Hoffenheim is playing eye-catching football right now and despite their 1-0 loss to Dortmund, they’ve shown their defensive resilience, conceding just two in their last five fixtures. I’m backing Hoffenheim here.

21/20 Schalke | Draw 26/10 | Augsburg 49/20 (17:30)

We close out the Bundesliga weekend with Schalke hosting Augsburg at the Veltins-Arena. Don’t let the scoreline fool you; Schalke didn’t have a single first-half shot at goal in their 1-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund.

While Augsburg were dominated, they did manage to sneak a major upset to hand Bayern Munich their first loss of the season. Both clubs squeezed in friendlies during the international break and should be ready to go. Neither side sways my decision in current form, and the Additional Total odds for Under 3.5 at 4/10 is safe.

TREBLE @ 10/1

Dortmund Win 21/20
Monchengladbach Win 31/20
Hoffenheim Win 5/4
